Ducks Unlimited is hiring a Project Accounting / Financial Operations Lead to strengthen financial oversight, close discipline, and audit readiness across its Conservation project portfolio.

This role sits between Conservation and DU's Finance and Accounting teams and is responsible for ensuring project-level financial data is accurate, supported, and aligned before it rolls into enterprise reporting. You’ll coordinate close activities and validate key balances to ensure project accounting holds up under audit.

This is a new, hands-on role reflecting the growth, scale, and complexity of DU’s project portfolio, working across a decentralized organization managing 2,000+ active projects, the role strengthens coordination of close, controls, and audit support.

Successful candidates will be comfortable owning complex balances, partnering across teams, and identifying issues before they impact close, audit, or financial reporting.

What You'll Do

  • Coordinate monthly and year-end close activities for Conservation department in partnership with central Finance and Accounting teams
  • Review and reconcile project revenue, deferred revenue, receivables, WIP, and accruals prior to enterprise close
  • Own accounting and reconciliation for the Habitat Revolving Fund (~$90M portfolio across ~90 properties), including oversight of regional entries and overall balance support
  • Identify and resolve misstatements, timing issues, and classification errors early
  • Ensure consistent application of revenue recognition and project accounting practices across regions
  • Review subledger activity and supporting schedules for completeness and accuracy
  • Maintain and prepare audit-ready support for key balances, including schedules supporting SEFA, indirect rates, and billing rates
  • Partner with Finance during audits and monitoring reviews including defending account support
  • Drive resolution of discrepancies across teams and improve consistency without direct authority
  • Standardize close and reconciliation processes across regions and improve workflows in Dynamics 365 Finance

What You Bring

  • 7–10 years of experience in project accounting, corporate accounting, financial reporting, or financial operations
  • Experience owning or reviewing month-end close activities, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting schedules
  • Strong working knowledge of revenue recognition, deferred revenue, accruals, receivable and subledger to GL reconciliation
  • Experience preparing, reviewing, and defending account support during audits, monitoring reviews, or financial reporting processes
  • Ability to identify discrepancies, trace issues to the source, and drive resolution across multiple teams
  • Comfort working in a decentralized or mixed-practice environment where processes may vary across locations or teams
  • ERP experience preferably with Dynamics 365 Finance or similar enterprise system
  • Ability to influence process consistency without direct authority

Location and Work Environment:

This position is part of the NHQ Conservation Department Administration and is ideally based at DU’s National Headquarters in Memphis, TN. Consideration may also be given to highly qualified candidates based in one of DU’s regional offices (Dexter, MI; Bismarck, ND; Ridgeland, MS; or Rancho Cordova, CA). The role works closely with NHQ Accounting and Finance, regional staff, and Conservation leadership, and reports directly to the Director of National Conservation Systems.
