Program Manager - Greer, SC
Position Summary
Alltrista Plastics continuously launches new plastic molded components, assemblies, and devices into production for our customers through our New Product Introduction (NPI) Process. Reporting to the Director, Program Management, the Program Manager leads our customer and internal team members through the NPI Process from quoting though realization. This position works closely with Sales, Engineering, Quality, our Manufacturing Sites, and other key functions to quote new opportunities and execute programs once they have been awarded. The Program Manager relentlessly drives achievement of agreed-to deliverables and communicates status to internal and external customers. This is a highly customer facing role.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Ensures the NPI Process is followed through all stages. Alltrista will provide specific NPI Process training, however the general phases include Quoting, Planning, Design & Build, and Realization.
- During Quoting of assigned programs, the Program Manager ensures that the correct quoting team is assembled and that this phase is executed per the NPI Process. With the assistance of key functions, including Sales, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and the Manufacturing Site, the Program Manager ensures that the scope to be quoted is fully defined, the proposed solution is sound, and that all critical aspects are included in the cost model for the new product and the budget to execute the program. The Program Manager has the ultimate responsibility for the program budget for assigned programs.
- For awarded projects, the Program Manager acts as the single point of contact for Alltrista customers to keep the customer apprised of program progress. This is a highly customer facing role. The Program Manager, in turn, communicates customer direction back to the internal program team.
- During the Planning phase of awarded programs, the Program Manager creates detailed program timelines and work breakdown structures and ensures adherence to the timeline during program execution. Any timeline deviations must be documented and communicated with the customer and program team. The Program Manager has the ultimate responsibility for the program timeline for assigned programs.
- Throughout program execution, the Program Manager ensures that the program scope is being maintained. The Program Manager evaluates any customer or internally driven scope changes for impact to the timeline and budget. The Program Manager documents and communicates the impact, risks, and alternatives to the customer and program team. The Program Manager has the ultimate responsibly for the program scope for assigned programs.
- Works with Sales to ensure that the program business case is maintained.
- During Design & Build phases, the Program Manager works with Engineering and key mold, molding machine, and automation vendors to ensure that Alltrista design and constructions standards are achieved, and construction is completed on time.
- During Realization, the Program Manager coordinates the evaluation and acceptance of molds, molding machines, and automation equipment through Factory/Site Acceptance testing (FAT/SAT). The Program Manager coordinates the shipment, receipt, and installation of new molds and equipment with Engineering and the Manufacturing Site. The Program Manager works with Quality to ensure new molds and equipment are validated appropriately and are production ready.
- The Program Manager establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department, the Corporation and the community. The Program Manager must be an effective communicator at all levels within the business.
- The Program Manager accepts direct responsibility and accountability for major programs, including financial commitments, deadlines and KPI’s.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Program Management, or similar field.
- Five years’ experience in plastics injection molding or blow molding , with skills to facilitate development of unique and novel design solutions.
- Seven years’ experience in engineering project management and processes.
- PMP Certification highly preferred.
- Great organizational and planning capabilities with exceptional risk mitigation and problem-solving skills.
- Must be detail oriented, able to meet deadlines on complex projects and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional teamwork and communication skills, including the ability to get things done and meet commitments by working with and through others.
- Requires being able to establish effective work relationships at all levels internally and with customers and suppliers.
- Black belt or lean experience preferred.
- Requires good financial acumen to generate and understand cost models, forecasts, budgets, and program profitability.
- Proficient knowledge of program management tools, including Gannt charts, timelines and budgets.
- Proficiency in use of medium to large scale Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Product Data Management (PDM) systems. MS Office power user, especially Excel, PowerPoint & Microsoft Project.
- Smartsheet experience preferred.
- Maintains the professional competence, knowledge and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.
Physical Requirements:
- Sitting at workstation approximately 85 percent of work time. Standing and walking approximately 15 percent of work time.
- Must be able to travel up to 50 percent of work time.
- Typical office environment with shelves overhead and above work surfaces.
