Production Technician

NatureWorks, LLC • Blair, NE

The Production Technician is responsible for the safe execution of the day to day operations of the production plant. This position will work closely with other team members and be responsible for personal and plant safety, environmental compliance, commitment to continuous improvement in the quality of our product, cost control efforts and efficient operations of the plant. This position requires working in 12 hour shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays.

The Production Technician is responsible for supporting the Plant Operations team in achieving the mission, vision and goals of the organization.


Environmental, Health & Safety Leadership (40%)

  • Operates safely within NatureWorks policies, procedures and governmental regulations and fully participates in and champions NatureWorks Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Programs
  • Ensures the EH&S Programs are being followed and provides a safe working environment to our employees and customers
  • Accountable for building a strong safety culture and actively pursues it on a daily basis; identifies unsafe behaviors and conditions and intervenes to mitigate incidents
  • Understands and applies environmental, health and safety regulations and policies

Operations (40%)

  • Engages with the operations team to operate plant equipment on a daily basis
  • Monitors and operates plant using the computer process control system (MOD)
  • Makes adjustments and/or changes to the process, both inside and outside of the control room as required
  • Monitors and accurately records system parameters using various computer based systems
  • Thoroughly documents shift activities in a computer-based operating logbook
  • Proactively uses knowledge and experience to identify problems, develop relevant facts, formulate alternative solutions, decides on appropriate conclusions and implement corrective actions; troubleshoots and corrects process problems
  • Uses ingenuity and applied knowledge to recommend changes which could result in improved productivity, safety and environmental performance
  • Prepares equipment for maintenance using the RTMS computer and field work

Internal Collaboration and Communication (10%)

  • Communicates quality and service issues with supervisors
  • Commitment to continuous improvement in our quality and cost control efforts
  • Contributes ideas and behaviors to meet NatureWorks objectives in continuous improvement and cost control on a regular basis

Housekeeping (10%)

Maintains the general appearance of the plant including cleaning and other warehouse duties as needed


Education and Experience Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1-2 years of manufacturing experience
  • Basic math skills

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Associates degree
  • 2+ years of manufacturing experience
  • Proficient in various computer programs
  • Prior Experience in operating equipment in same/similar industry

Other (knowledge, skills and abilities):

  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, execute and monitor multiple activities
  • Knowledge of NatureWorks production technology and equipment
  • Ability to work successfully in a manufacturing environment

  • Strong customer focus and service orientation with the ability to interact effectively with employees and vendors at all levels in a cross cultural setting

  • Standard work hours are 12 hour shifts including nights, weekends and holidays; ability to be available for on-call scheduling and call-in for plant needs due to start-up, process upsets, equipment failures, etc.; willingness to work flexible hours
  • Willing to work in an manufacturing plant environment that can be hot, dirty, encompassing all levels
  • Ability to work in a potentially physically strenuous environment
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting; capable of lifting 50 pounds repeatedly with proper ergonomic form; will follow Company safety and ergonomic guideless to avoid injury
  • Must have the ability to work in a plant environment
  • Have reliable transportation
  • Be able to work without sitting (other than breaks) for entire shift
