The Production Supervisor is responsible for coordinating daily manufacturing activities to meet production goals while maintaining high standards for safety, food safety, quality, cost, and on-time delivery.
This position provides hands-on leadership to production employees, monitors labor and material utilization, ensures production schedules are achieved, and works closely with Production Management, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Materials, Planning, R&D, and other departments.
The Production Supervisor must be comfortable working in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment and will be cross-trained in food safety requirements to provide support throughout the facility as needed.
Supervise daily production operations and employees within assigned areas.
Ensure production goals are achieved safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
Manage labor, production yields, line rates, material usage, and overall productivity.
Monitor staffing requirements and obtain approval before adding additional labor.
Enforce company policies, work procedures, GMPs, food safety standards, quality requirements, and workplace safety procedures.
Ensure products are manufactured according to established R&D and Quality Assurance specifications.
Immediately identify and report product or process deviations and take appropriate corrective action when necessary.
Monitor both the quality and quantity of products produced within assigned operations.
Work closely with the Production Manager to improve operating procedures, processes, and departmental performance.
Identify potential production problems or obstacles and immediately communicate issues that could impact schedules or deadlines.
Coordinate production activities with Materials, Planning, Maintenance, Engineering, Product Development, Testing, Quality, and Customer Service.
Promote continuous improvement and establish measurable goals for employees and production areas.
Approve employee vacation requests in accordance with company policy.
Participate in required production, safety, quality, and facility meetings.
Complete production reports and other required documentation accurately and within established deadlines.
Provide leadership, direction, coaching, and accountability to production employees.
Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred.
Bilingual English/Spanish required or strongly preferred.
Previous supervisory or leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
Food manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
Knowledge of food manufacturing processes, procedures, GMPs, and food safety practices.
Understanding of material control, utilization, waste reduction, and production efficiency.
Knowledge of applicable regulatory and customer requirements.
Food Safety certifications preferred.
Strong leadership and communication skills.
Ability to effectively manage employees and hold teams accountable to established standards.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Ability to establish and execute continuous improvement goals and objectives.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment with changing priorities.
This position may require standing, walking, sitting, climbing stairs, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and working around manufacturing equipment. Employees must occasionally be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
The position requires adequate close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision as well as the ability to adjust focus.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on bilingual production leader with food manufacturing experience who understands that safety, food safety, quality, productivity, and employee accountability all work together. This individual should be comfortable leading production teams on the floor, solving problems quickly, and keeping operations on schedule while maintaining established quality and safety standards.
