2nd Shift Production Supervisor
Heavy Industrial Manufacturing
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced 2nd Shift Production Supervisor to lead manufacturing operations within a fast-paced heavy industrial production environment. This position is responsible for supervising hourly production employees, driving safety and quality initiatives, meeting production goals, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on manufacturing leader with experience supervising production teams in industries such as wood products, steel, metals, building materials, paper, industrial manufacturing, or other heavy industrial operations.
Responsibilities
- Lead daily operations for a 2nd shift production team, ensuring safety, quality, productivity, and delivery objectives are consistently achieved.
- Supervise, coach, mentor, and develop hourly production employees while promoting accountability and teamwork.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, LOTO procedures, and environmental standards.
- Conduct shift start-up meetings, safety talks, and production communications.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) including productivity, downtime, scrap, labor efficiency, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
- Coordinate with Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and Shipping departments to minimize downtime and maximize production throughput.
- Identify production bottlenecks and implement Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
- Investigate production issues and perform root cause analysis to implement corrective actions.
- Ensure products consistently meet customer quality specifications and company standards.
- Manage employee scheduling, attendance, overtime, and shift coverage.
- Complete production reporting and communicate shift performance to plant leadership.
- Promote 5S workplace organization and maintain high housekeeping standards throughout the facility.
- Support employee training, onboarding, and performance evaluations while developing future team leaders.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.
- Experience leading production teams of 20+ employees preferred.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and OSHA compliance.
- Experience working in wood products, steel, metals, paper, building materials, plastics, chemical processing, or similar heavy manufacturing industries.
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and 5S principles.
- Experience using production metrics and KPIs to drive operational performance.
- Excellent leadership, communication, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and production reporting systems.
- Bachelor's degree preferred but equivalent manufacturing leadership experience will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
- Six Sigma Green Belt Training or Certification
- Lean Manufacturing experience
- Kaizen event participation
- Root Cause Analysis experience
- Experience with employee development and succession planning
- Knowledge of GMPs or ISO quality systems (depending on industry)
