Job Summary:

The Production Supervisor oversees the daily production operations while directly supervising the activities of the front-line production employees to ensure; employees are working safely and have the proper tools and equipment, production levels are met, inventory levels are maintained and that we are functioning all with the Carmeuse Values forefront. The Production Supervisor is charged with managing the performance and verification of production activities throughout the plant. The Production Supervisor supports continuous improvement of the site manufacturing operations to enable safe manufacturing of products in scheduled quantities, at the lowest sustainable cost and acceptable quality.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Responsible for providing leadership to ensure all company safety rules and agency regulations are observed by all employees.
    • This includes providing a safe workplace, planning the necessary resources in manpower and budgeting to accomplish site safety goals.
    • Actively assessing work environments to remove potential safety and environmental risks.
    • Supervise and ensure conformance to the company safety and environmental programs.
    • Manage employee, environmental and public relation concerns; as assigned.
    • Support regulatory compliance with environmental regulations for the lime facility.
  • Communicate site operating targets and results and solicit feedback on causes for gaps relative to sales, production, training, and maintenance targets.
  • Provide day-to-day supervision of hourly employees ensuring effective job performance and task completion.
  • Execute work plans and daily activities.
  • Participate in required meetings, investigations, and other activities associated with site leadership; as appropriate.
  • Provides task training to employees to ensure technical competence of employees is maintained.
  • Identify and initiate actions to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformities relating to product or process.
  • Oversee the loading of raw materials into the operation as well as shipments and distribution of finished goods and materials.
  • Ensure appropriate records and data are entered into appropriate systems; as required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Associates or Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Business or related field and/or DMME Foreman Certification preferred.
  • 2+ years supervision or management experience in heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Industry background in manufacturing, paper mills, steel plants, refractory, heavy equipment fabrication, processing, cement plants, dispatching and fleet management etc. preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with people management skills.
  • Positive & proactive attitude with demonstrated ability to:
    • Assess organization and personnel issues.
    • Provide coaching and mentoring where appropriate.
    • Deliver solutions that improve facility performance.
  • Understanding of basic workings of plant equipment – mechanical/electrical exposure.
  • Demonstrated experience in dealing with Provincial and Federal regulatory agencies and how they impact the safety and environmental aspects of the business.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, and effectively communicate with other employees in the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Additional Knowledge/Skills:

  • Technical knowledge of hydrate and aggregate production is preferred
  • Knowledge of dispatching and fleet management business sector.
  • Extensive knowledge and background of continuous manufacturing and production processes, knowledge and experience working contemporary concepts of continuous improvement and Lean Manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, strong organization and prioritization skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail and process oriented with strong problem resolution abilities.
  • Knowledge of basic Chemistry, chemical reactions, and Thermo-Dynamics.
  • Demonstrates the ability to apply appropriate conflict management strategies to ensure conflicts are resolved to the benefit of all parties.
  • Establishes and maintains highly productive working relationships across the organization with all groups within the region and the company; demonstrating respect for conflicting points of view, listens to others, and builds strong working relationships.
  • Demonstrates excellent technical skills for producing reports, and other appropriate communications.
  • Demonstrates the ability to manage projects using project management methodology and techniques.
  • Uses quality management skills to ensure all procedures and work activities conform to work specifications and standards.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work autonomously with an emphasis on being results oriented.
  • Demonstrate strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Possess good computer skills; Microsoft office suite and SAP.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and adapts to fast-paced changing environments.
