American Crane & Equipment Corporation (ACECO) is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Production Planner / Scheduler to support our Manufacturing team. This role is responsible for developing, maintaining, and continuously optimizing detailed production schedules to ensure on-time delivery of custom cranes, hoists, and engineered material handling equipment.

This position plays a critical role in aligning materials, manpower, machine capacity, and project timelines with customer commitments in a heavy manufacturing environment.

What You’ll Do

Production Planning & Scheduling

  • Develop and maintain master production schedules for crane manufacturing projects, including fabrication, machining, painting, and assembly operations
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date work center and job schedules
  • Analyze job orders, timelines, and resource requirements to plan workflow and sequencing
  • Reschedule jobs based on changes in material availability, engineering release dates, capacity constraints, or shifting priorities
  • Develop and maintain a credible, forward-looking production schedule reflecting work center loading and material status


ERP & Data Management

  • Utilize ERP and scheduling modules to manage sales orders, jobs, work orders, and inventory linkages
  • Ensure data integrity across interconnected systems and cross-functional dependencies
  • Assist in implementation and optimization of ERP tools for scheduling and material control
  • Create dashboards and reports to support real-time production visibility
  • Spend approximately 70–80% of the workday engaged in ERP and scheduling systems


Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Integrate engineering release dates with production start schedules
  • Coordinate with Quality regarding schedule impacts from rework or inspection delays
  • Collaborate with supervisors to confirm availability of labor, equipment, and materials
  • Participate in cross-functional planning meetings and operational reviews


Risk Identification & Resolution

  • Proactively identify schedule risks including material shortages, labor constraints, equipment downtime, or engineering delays
  • Facilitate resolution discussions with stakeholders
  • Monitor and adjust schedules to minimize disruption and maintain on-time performance


Performance Measurement & Reporting

  • Track KPIs such as promise vs. actual start and finish dates
  • Provide weekly schedule updates to Project Managers, Engineering, and Operations leadership
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to scheduling effectiveness and operational flow

 

What We’re Looking For

Education

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or related field preferred
  • Equivalent relevant experience will be considered


Experience

  • Experience in production planning and scheduling within an ERP environment required
  • Experience in heavy equipment, crane manufacturing, engineered-to-order, or low-volume/high-mix production strongly preferred
  • Experience interpreting blueprints, fabrication drawings, and project schedules
  • Experience scheduling long-lead or custom-built equipment preferred


Skills & Attributes

REQUIREMENTS

  • Authorization to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship

  • Willingness to undergo a background check in accordance with applicable laws
  • Willingness to undergo a pre-employment drug screen and randomized drug testing during employment
  • Ability to meet the posted work schedule and required hours
  • Ability to maintain reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Willingness to follow all company safety policies and procedures
  • Willingness to wear required PPE when in shop or manufacturing areas
  • Willingness to complete required safety, compliance, and role-specific training
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION

  • On-site presence required five days per week
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while performing computer-based ERP and scheduling work
  • Ability to regularly stand and walk the production floor
  • Ability to safely navigate shop floor, stairs, and platforms
  • Ability to lift and carry items up to 25–40 pounds as needed
  • Ability to safely wear required PPE in shop environments

 

Work Environment

  • Hybrid work environment combining professional office and manufacturing shop floor
  • Regular presence in fabrication and production areas for coordination and progress verification
  • Exposure to industrial conditions including noise, moving equipment, and active fabrication areas
  • Required use of appropriate PPE when entering shop areas
  • Compliance with all safety policies and procedures is mandatory
