Production Supervisor – Main Assembly

Lead the Team. Drive Production. Build World-Class Equipment.

SCHWING America is looking for an experienced Production Supervisor – Main Assembly to lead employees in our manufacturing operation in White Bear Lake, MN. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who understands manufacturing, enjoys developing employees, and knows how to balance production demands with safety, quality, and efficiency.

In this role, you will spend the majority of your time on the production floor working directly with employees while partnering closely with Planning, Engineering, Quality, Logistics, Human Resources, and other departments to keep production moving and ensure equipment is built to SCHWING standards.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and manage assembly employees while ensuring production schedules and departmental goals are met.

  • Uphold and enforce SCHWING safety requirements and quality standards.

  • Partner with Planning to develop, maintain, and execute the production schedule.

  • Hold employees accountable for production output while ensuring safety and quality are never compromised.

  • Coach, mentor, train, and develop employees to improve individual and team performance.

  • Address performance concerns and complete required coaching and performance documentation in a timely manner.

  • Partner with Human Resources on recruiting, hiring, orientation, onboarding, and training of new employees.

  • Work closely with Engineering and employees to identify and implement productivity and process improvements that reduce costs and improve efficiency.

  • Lead continuous improvement and Lean initiatives that support departmental and organizational goals.

  • Help drive 6S implementation and sustainability throughout the department.

  • Maintain and document departmental processes, ensuring procedures remain accurate and current.

  • Partner with Planning and Logistics to reduce unnecessary inventory on the production floor.

  • Monitor production performance and run reports related to labor, efficiency, training, and other key production metrics.

  • Maintain accurate and current department tier boards and communicate performance expectations to the team.

  • Work with Engineering on prototype builds and new product introductions.

  • Support Spare Parts and Service with tear-down orders and quick-turn assembly needs.

  • Identify equipment, tools, and supply needs for the department and complete required documentation and approval processes.

  • Handle unusual or difficult employee or production situations directly and involve the appropriate resources when needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment, with demonstrated leadership and employee-development skills.

  • Significant experience in heavy equipment, industrial equipment, or a similar manufacturing environment; 10 years of related manufacturing experience preferred.

  • Degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or a related field preferred.

  • At minimum, vocational or technical education in mechanics, hydraulics, low-voltage electrical systems, or a related discipline preferred.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience reading engineering prints and working with mechanical, hydraulic, and low-voltage electrical systems.

  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, TQM, Kaizen, 6S, or similar continuous-improvement methodologies strongly preferred.

  • Ability to lead employees, set expectations, hold teams accountable, and effectively address performance issues.

  • Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Comfortable using production data and metrics to identify issues and improve performance.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel; experience with SAP and ADP preferred.

Work Environment

This is an active manufacturing leadership position that requires a strong presence on the production floor.

  • Approximately 70% of the workday is spent on the production floor interacting with employees, monitoring production, addressing issues, and supporting training and performance.

  • Approximately 30% of the workday is spent performing administrative work, running reports, reviewing production data, and using systems such as SAP and Microsoft Excel.
