Position Summary: 

The Production Maintenance Technician is responsible for the general upkeep of our manufacturing equipment in our Oakland, MD location. Along with maintaining a clean, safe and functional work environment the Production Maintenance Technician will know how to troubleshoot, install, and repair a diverse lineup of equipment such as glass furnaces, grinding machines, industrial ovens, and a variety of custom equipment used in glass manufacturing.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Perform regular preventative maintenance on machines, equipment, and plant facilities (e.g. changing filters, bearings and belts; monitoring equipment performance) to ensure productive up-time
• Use a variety of hand and power tools, electrical meters, and industrial material handling equipment including a forklift, crane, and hoist 
• Welding, metal work, and refractory casting to support fabrication of custom machinery
• Electrical and plumbing troubleshooting 
• Proactively help identify and address maintenance needs 
• Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work area 
• Provide on-call support and weekend support

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities: 

• As part of a team, support with general maintenance and service as appropriate (e.g. painting, drain cleaning, shoveling, cleaning, etc.) 
• When necessary, prepare and load the glass pellet mix for melting in the furnace 

Qualifications

Qualifications Required:

• High school diploma or the equivalent
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
• Motivated to learn
• Good mechanical and pneumatics troubleshooting experience
• Keen eye and attention to detail
• Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs
• Ability to work some overtime hours and be on-call
• Must be motivated and able to work independently and in a team environment
• Must be able to work at heights up to 20 feet.

Qualifications Preferred:

• Degree from a trade school
• 3-5 years work experience in a licensed trade or in a comparable manufacturing environment
• Experience maintaining machinery
• Welding and fabrication skills
• Plumbing and electrical knowledge and troubleshooting skills
• Familiarity with combustion systems and/or 3 phase electrical
• Proficient but basic computer skills (email, Windows or Google based programs)

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
