Job Overview:

The Production Assistant is responsible for various television production duties required to record scenes for live and recorded broadcasts.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support production staff with the coordination, creation, scheduling and distribution of all news marketing projects.
  • Composes and frames camera shots, applying the technical aspects of light, lenses and camera settings to achieve the effects sought by directors
  • Adjust positions and controls of cameras to change focus, exposure and lighting as requested by the director
  • Operates studio cameras during live broadcasts
  • Operates remote cameras during live broadcasts
  • Confers with directors and other crew members discussing sequences, desired effects, camera movements and lighting requirements
  • Sets up cameras and related equipment
  • Operates sound equipment including Audio Board and microphones
  • Operates Character Generator and Graphics
  • Operates Teleprompter
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Skills:

  • Must be able to interact well with video journalists, anchors, videographers, news managers, production and engineering staff.
  • Familiarity with processes and procedures of a television production department.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Must be able to work up to 30 hours per week. Some weekday AM shifts, some weekday PM shifts and most weekend evenings. Schedules will be according to the Production Director's needs, potentially changing weekly.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:


The Production Assistant must be able to sit, reach, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. The Production Assistant must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment or items weighing up to 25 pounds and stand for long periods of time.
