Position Summary / Objective:
UTEX Industries Inc. is seeking a skilled and motivated Product Engineer II to join our product engineering team. In this mid-level role, you will be instrumental in designing and developing innovative sealing products, ensuring they meet customer requirements and industry standards. Your responsibilities will include leading projects, collaborating across departments, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within the company. Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. - Lead the design and development of sealing products, translating customer requirements into functional product designs.
- Oversee mold design efforts, working closely with mold suppliers to review and approve molds, ensuring they meet specifications and quality standards.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, customer service, sales, and engineering teams to develop and implement product solutions that meet customer requirements.
- Create and refine engineering drawings, specifications, and project documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company standards.
- Support the project management process by tracking project milestones, managing scope, and reporting progress to senior management.
- Participate in the implementation of engineering designs on the manufacturing floor, assisting with troubleshooting and problem-solving as needed.
- Support the quality assurance team by assisting with non-conformance documentation, identifying root causes, and proposing engineering solutions.
- Conduct product and material research to support the development of new products and improve existing ones, working with advanced materials and manufacturing techniques.
- Utilize company ERP software to aid in production planning and material selection, ensuring seamless integration of engineering designs into manufacturing processes.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, providing technical support and sharing best practices.
Required Education and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science Engineering, Polymer Science, Chemistry, or a related technical field.
- Experience: 3-5 years of relevant experience in product engineering, preferably within the manufacturing industry focusing on sealing products or molded rubber components.
TECHNICAL SKILLS: - Proficiency in SolidWorks; working knowledge of AutoCAD.
- Hands-on experience with rubber molding processes and a strong background in polymers.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in data analysis tools such as Excel, MATLAB, or Python.
SOFT SKILLS: - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
Work Environment This position operates primarily in an office environment with our Conroe, TX manufacturing location. Regular interaction with manufacturing teams and time spent in the plant are required, where personal protective equipment, including steel-toed boots, is mandatory.
Physical Demands - Moderate walking
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
- Physically able to conduct product inspections with example tools listed above. Abilities should include but are not limited to, fine finger dexterity, standing, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, vision abilities such as close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Travel This position may require occasional travel (up to 20%) to other UTEX locations and customer sites.
