Position Summary
The Product Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and validation of new products that meet ODL customer needs and align with ODL’s innovation goals and cost targets. This role blends creativity with technical expertise to turn ideas into manufacturable solutions within the building products industry. The Product Engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams throughout the product development lifecycle—from concept and prototyping through testing and launch—ensuring performance, quality, and cost objectives are achieved. Ideal candidates are hands-on problem solvers who are curious about how things work and are eager to transform concepts into reality.
Essential Job Functions
•Apply new technologies to develop products that solve ODL customer needs.
•Broad understanding of engineering principles.
•Take a concept from idea phase through to production launch.
•Proven track record of self-motivation and taking initiatives on your own accord.
•Develop and execute testing plans for novel concepts.
•Apply tools like DFMEA, DVP&R, FEA, Cost Estimates, and work within a stage-gate process.
•Collaborate within cross-functional teams to meet project requirements, cost, and timing deliverables.
•Embrace the iterative nature of R&D, knowing when to pause or persevere.
Candidate Requirements
•Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
•3-5+ years of experience with new product development.
•Familiarity with CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) and basic knowledge of Microsoft Office tools.
•Strong problem-solving skills and curiosity.
•Effective communication and time management skills with the ability to work on multiple tasks independently.
•Experience with residential door, glass, IG and building material designs.
•Familiarity with injection molding and extrusions; basic understanding of electrical systems a plus
•Oracle or ERP system experience.
