Summary


The Product Engineer on Elliott’s New Product Development (NPD) team in Binghamton, New York will be required to conceptualize, design, and implement new products/processes aligned to Elliott’s sales plan and business strategy as well as support existing products. Projects will involve developing Flexible Shaft and Bowden Cable mechanical power transmission products and layouts, supporting manufacturing processes, and providing technical support to cross functional colleagues.


Job Duties and Responsibilities


Develops and coordinates projects, plans, and schedules from conception, design, and development to implementation. Projects include new applications, design improvements and/or value-added engineering on new or existing products. Work is performed with substantial latitude for independent action and decision. Formulates cost estimates. Coordinates all phases of project development with Sales and Marketing. Updates status documents and timelines to report out on a regular basis. Supervises the production of prototypes in accordance with sound engineering principles and project goals. Creates, audits, and reviews test standards and specifications for the analysis of design concepts and component assemblies. Works with Manufacturing Engineering to implement the most efficient manufacturing and assembly methods for meeting appropriate specifications. Assists with implementation into production as required. Finalizes all engineering documentation required for product release. Works with Sales and Customer Service Representatives to understand and define customer needs. Expands expertise in state-of-the-art engineering, manufacturing methods, and innovations in materials through technical journals, seminars, advanced degree programs, etc. Stays current in the status of competitive products that may affect the company’s competitive position, evaluates those products, and provides analysis as necessary. All other responsibilities as assigned by management.

Skills and Competencies


· Use parametric modelling software to create/revise sketches, models, assemblies, and drawings.


· Follow business processes to document/execute drawing revisions and other activities.


· Produce analysis, test results, and/or calculations to support fit/form/function changes.


· Create and update prototype and redline markup drawings to support production.


· Create and maintain documentation for project input and output data.


· Must have a high level of attention to detail and be driven to produce accurate work.


· Able to read prints, understand tolerancing, and discern design intent.


· Able to visualize 3D designs and incorporate design intent at parametric system’s sketch/model level.


· Leverage input from others, experience, and judgment to plan work and achieve goals in efficient and timely manner.


· Knowledge of various Mechanical Engineering concepts, practices, references, specifications, and procedures.


· Possess the proficient writing and reporting skills needed to communicate technical and business matters in a professional, accurate, and explicit manner to colleagues, customers, suppliers, and leadership team members.


· Ability to work individually and collaboratively with colleagues, customers, and suppliers in professional manner


Education and Experience


· Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Comparable Engineering Discipline


· Entry Level to 5 Years of Engineering Experience


Additional Experience Preferred


· Design experience, primarily mechanical


· ANSI Drafting Standards, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing


· 3D Parametric Solid Modeling, Preferably SolidWorks


· Able to use MS Office products, Adobe Acrobat, and other applications to support Engineering activities.


· Document Change Systems and Processes - Product Data Management Systems, preferably SolidWorks EPDM


· ERP/MRP Systems - BOM’s / Routers


· Lean Manufacturing, Problem Solving Methodologies


· Product Cost Estimation


· Hands-on Mechanical and Measuring Skills/Aptitude


· Understanding of Statistical, GR&R, PPAP, and Process Capability Measures


· Testing/Test Lab/Product Testing/Test Reporting/LabView Programming


· ISO/AS91000 Certified Work Environment


· Conversational Spanish
