POSITION OVERVIEW

The Product Design Engineer II at Gentex is responsible for advancing complex engineering tasks and honing specialized skills to contribute significantly to team projects, driving both technical solutions and process improvements that support the company’s strategic direction. This role is a blend of individual contribution and collaborative effort, aimed at delivering high-quality engineering outcomes.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Lead the design and development of mechanical components.
  • Apply existing customer and Gentex specifications in product design verification testing. Develop new design specifications as needed.
  • Actively engage with validation engineering and the validation lab through the product testing lifecycle.
  • Lead the team in interpreting test results and determining next steps.
  • Lead the process of implementing changes to current and future designs based on product design verification testing.
  • Support and follow the TS16949 procedure manual formats.
  • Support advanced engineering projects.
  • Support Gentex patent protection, actively engaging in patent activities for new development.
  • Lead competitive benchmark testing.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Planning and aligning - Planning and prioritizing work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals. Assist in planning the production personnel and routings to meet our customer current and future demands while maintaining the high level of product quality required by the customer and Gentex.
  • Fostering Teamwork - Building effective partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives. Interface with other departments on the production teams’ behalf to ensure that the company quality standards and customer requirements are met.
  • Maintaining a high level of honesty, integrity, and confidentiality with respect to company matters.
  • Complying with all Company policies and procedures, safety regulations, company safety policies and safely perform all duties, including but not limited to, promoting a safe workplace.

WHAT TO BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • 3+ years of progressive engineering experience.
  • Must be capable of applying format engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes, and feasibility, as well as a good understanding of automotive design requirements and practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

WHAT WILL HELP

  • 5+ years of progressive engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of Catia solids, plastic molds, die-casting, and metal stamping.
  • Experience in leading engineering projects.
  • Proficiency in 3D computer aided design software.
  • Familiarity in working collaboratively in a team environment.
  • A record of patents or publications that demonstrate a capability for innovation and thought leadership within the engineering community.
  • Participation in professional engineering associations or continuous education programs to stay ahead of industry trends and technological advances.
