Description

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Process Technician will provide technical support for the molding operations including preparation, set-up and troubleshooting of machines and secondary operations. Confer with direct Supervisor and/or Shift Lead. Examine work to detect production defects.

 

JOB DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Demonstrate understanding of all set-up procedures and all molding machine functions.

  • Set-up, start, and troubleshoot presses using established process control methods.

  • Set-up straight forward open and closed molds as well as more complex molds with multiple core pulls, auxiliary hydraulics, and manifolds.

  • Set-up and troubleshoot secondary equipment.

  • Initiate corrective action for jobs running out of standard cycle.

  • Set limit switches, timers, and process controls on presses.

  • Change end of arm tooling and load robot program into press.

  • Perform basic robotic troubleshooting on end of arm tooling.

  • Perform periodic inspection rounds when needed.

  • Complete classes on materials, statistical process control (SPC) and basic processing skills as required.

  • Comply with safety guidelines, rules, regulations and procedures as well as maintain work area in a clean and orderly manner.

  • Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness.

  • Interpret blueprint specifications, set-up documentation, control plans and manufacturing instructions and use various inspection equipment or gauges to verify product quality and plot statistical data as required; generally involving several part numbers at a time.

  • Practical understanding of shop mathematics.

  • Assist Supervisor in training of new personnel on proper job procedures, quality requirements and safety procedures.

  • Notify maintenance when major service to machinery is required.

  • Observe machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunctions, adjusting machines as necessary.

  • Perform minor machine maintenance, such as oiling or cleaning machines, dies, or work pieces, or adding coolant to machine reservoirs.

  • Promote 5S mentality and push for strong housekeeping principles.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES):

Knowledge:

  • Production and Processing - Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

  • Design - Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.

  • Mechanical - Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Hands on experience using measurement devices, i.e. calipers, micrometer, height gage, etc. Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) procedures and applications.

  • Education/Training - High school diploma or 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills:

  • Complex Problem Solving

Abilities:

  • Control Precision – Be able to adjust the controls of a machine quickly and repeatedly.

  • Language - Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence. The ability to effectively communicate.

  • Strength – Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 55 pounds and sometimes lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
