Position Overview:

The essential responsibilities of this position include installing molds into molding machines, and setting up automation and secondary/auxiliary equipment in a safe and timely manner. This candidate must always strive to improve the quality and stability of the manufacturing process. The majority of this position is setting molds, machine startups, and process troubleshooting using Scientific Molding.

Responsibilities

Major Tasks and Responsibilities:

 

  • Perform mold changes and setups on molding machines with assistance from Mold Tech or Process Tech. Start/troubleshoot injection molding machines using Scientific Molding principles to produce conforming product.
  • Develop and demonstrate a basic knowledge of all in house machinery – knowledge of machine safety, machine functions, and molding machine vocabulary.
  • Robotics – Change End-of-Arm Tooling (EOAT), load programs, start, stop, and step through programs on multiple machines, and basic cut and position adjustments.
  • Processing – Load predefined part recipes and verify to process sheet. Understanding of scientific molding principles and a decoupled II process.
  • Materials – Identify various material types and understand resin drying parameters. Understanding of material morphology and the differences between semi-crystalline and amorphous resins.
  • Quality Systems – Demonstrate an understanding to troubleshoot and use scientific molding to correct molding defects, read and follow QI, use of gauges, and complete a startup checklist. Ability to read blueprints and perform first piece inspections to QI.
  • Technical Communication – The ability to communicate on a technical level and use of scientific molding vocabulary to offer solutions.
  • Insure that all machines are operating at standard cycle times and operating efficiencies, as well as producing quality parts. Makes adjustments to process and/or machine setup as necessary to support the above.  Notify Technical Molding Manager or Supervisor when unable to attain due to elements outside of technician’s control.
  • Develop and maintain good working relations with other departments and all others that must interact with the department.
  • Insure good housekeeping by taking ownership of the area in which they are working and removing unnecessary items when job is complete and returning them to a proper home location.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement programs including the Hayward Lean Production System, including Kaizen as needed to advance departmental, personal, and company goals.
  • Understand, adhere to, and lead the way in all company policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to all Company and Departmental Safety Policies, including identifying and striving for continuous safety improvements.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

 

  • Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of programmable logic controllers and hydraulics is required.
  • Ability to start/troubleshoot injection molding machines using Scientific Molding.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Basic Mathematical skills required.
  • Ability to learn new technology systems, methods or process.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret information.
  • Ability to operate a forklift in a safe manner.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage time.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, overtime, weekends, and holidays.

Education and Experience:

 

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Must have a minimum of five years plastic injection molding experience including processing and trouble shooting. Robotic experience with EOAT is a plus.

 

Physical Requirements:

 

  • Frequently required to push, pull, maneuver or lift up to 50lbs.
  • Continuously pushing, reaching, climbing, and stopping during mold changes.
  • Occasionally operating an overhead crane on a regular basis.
  • Continuously required to use close vision, distance vision, depth perception or the ability to focus.

 

Work Environment:

 

  • The work environment is generally noisy and dirty, and the employee regularly works around dust, oil, electrical devices, and mechanically moving parts.
  • Safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety toe shoes are required while on the plant floor.
