Injection Mold Process Technician

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Injection Mold Process Technician to support plastic injection molding operations within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This individual will be responsible for setting up, troubleshooting, and optimizing injection molding processes to ensure safe, efficient production of high-quality parts.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with injection molding machines, mold changes, process parameters, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement. This position will work closely with production, maintenance, quality, and engineering to minimize downtime and maintain consistent manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and start up injection molding machines, molds, and auxiliary equipment for production.
• Perform mold changes, machine setups, and process adjustments according to production requirements.
• Establish and adjust injection molding parameters including temperatures, pressures, speeds, cycle times, and cooling conditions.
• Troubleshoot molding defects and process issues such as flash, short shots, sink marks, warpage, burns, dimensional issues, and other quality concerns.
• Monitor production processes and make adjustments to maintain part quality and process consistency.
• Troubleshoot injection molding machines, molds, robotics, material handling systems, and auxiliary equipment.
• Assist maintenance personnel with diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical equipment issues.
• Perform or support preventive maintenance activities on molds and molding equipment.
• Verify proper material selection, drying, handling, and processing requirements.
• Work closely with Quality and Engineering to identify root causes of defects and implement corrective actions.
• Support new mold trials, product launches, process development, and validation activities.
• Document machine settings, process parameters, setup information, and production changes.
• Identify opportunities to reduce scrap, improve cycle times, increase equipment uptime, and improve overall process efficiency.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment and follow all company safety procedures.
• Provide technical support and guidance to machine operators and other production personnel.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as an Injection Mold Process Technician, Injection Molding Technician, Process Technician, Mold Technician, or similar manufacturing position.
• Strong hands-on knowledge of plastic injection molding processes and equipment.
• Experience performing mold changes, machine setups, startups, and process adjustments.
• Ability to troubleshoot injection molding defects and identify process-related root causes.
• Knowledge of injection molding process parameters including pressure, temperature, speed, cooling, and cycle time.
• Experience working with robotics and auxiliary equipment is preferred.
• Understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and basic electrical systems is preferred.
• Familiarity with preventive maintenance and basic equipment troubleshooting.
• Strong problem-solving and mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to read work instructions, process documentation, and technical specifications.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with production, maintenance, quality, and engineering teams.
• High school diploma or GED required; technical training or related certifications are a plus.

Preferred Experience

• Experience with high-volume injection molding manufacturing.
• Scientific molding or process development experience.
• Experience troubleshooting automated molding cells and robotics.
• Experience with continuous improvement, scrap reduction, and cycle-time optimization.
• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, or similar manufacturing improvement methodologies.

Work Environment

This is a hands-on manufacturing position requiring significant time on the production floor. The Injection Mold Process Technician should be comfortable working around industrial machinery and responding to production and equipment issues in a fast-paced environment.
