Injection Molding Process Technician

About the Opportunity
A leading manufacturer is seeking an experienced Injection Molding Process Technician to join its production team. This individual will play a key role in optimizing molding processes, improving part quality, reducing scrap, and supporting production efficiency. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on process development, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Set up, start up, and optimize injection molding machines for production.
- Develop and adjust molding parameters to ensure consistent part quality and cycle time efficiency.
- Troubleshoot molding defects including flash, shorts, sink marks, burns, warpage, splay, and dimensional issues.
- Perform mold changes and validate new tooling or product launches.
- Monitor production processes and make adjustments to maximize uptime and minimize scrap.
- Work closely with Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and Production teams to resolve process-related issues.
- Assist with root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for recurring process concerns.
- Document process parameters and maintain standardized process sheets.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, and cost reduction.
- Train operators on proper machine operation and processing best practices.
- Follow all safety, quality, and housekeeping standards.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience as an Injection Molding Process Technician, Process Setter, or Process Engineer in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of injection molding processes and scientific molding principles.
- Experience setting up and troubleshooting injection molding machines.
- Ability to optimize cycle times while maintaining quality standards.
- Familiarity with mold installation, mold changes, and auxiliary equipment.
- Experience working with engineering-grade plastics and commodity resins.
- Ability to interpret part drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with RJG Scientific Molding or similar process development methodology.
- Knowledge of robotics, automation, or vision inspection systems.
- Experience with hot runner systems.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Understanding of SPC and quality documentation.
- Associate degree or technical certification is preferred but not required.
