Job Overview:

Are you looking for an opportunity to the manage the successful deployment of a full range of Environment Health and Safey services across the region and business units in a technically robust way? If so, this is the role for you.

As Environment Health and Safety Professional you will be responsible for ensuring our site is in compliance with the GSK Environment Health and Safety standards and local legislations. You will serve as the technical expert/consultant for specific site EHS programs, specifically Process Safety, to support the business.

This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career. These responsibilities include some of the following:

  • Have in-depth knowledge of current government regulations regarding safety and environmental compliance, safe work practices, hazardous and non-hazardous materials identification, control, handling and disposal methods, occupational health issues and fire prevention methods.
  • Support environmental, health and safety activities at GSK Zebulon to ensure compliance with local, state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Review, interpret and administer EHS regulations, policies, and regulatory trends, and develop and implement effective compliance programs relating to industrial hygiene and monitoring, respiratory protection, chemical hygiene plan, bloodborne pathogens, potent compound handling, noise abatement/hearing conservation, laboratory safety, emergency response, accident investigation, contractor safety management, construction safety, hot work, machine guarding, lockout/tagout, electrical safety, process safety, confined space entry, risk assessments, radiation safety, and hazardous waste disposal.
  • Support the site environmental programs including but not limited to the following: Air Permitting, Wastewater Permitting, Hazardous Waste Compliance, Right-to-Know Reporting, SPCC Compliance, Stormwater Permitting, Greenhouse Gas Reporting
  • Provide EHS training to site personnel to achieve and maintain compliance.
  • Utilize continuous improvement tools towards the goal of Zero accidents, zero defects and zero waste.
  • Serve as professional general EHS Engineer to the site and to Value Streams/Departments as assigned and be able to negotiate with and influence management and employees in assigned Value Streams/Departments to implement effective EHS management systems in their areas of control.
  • Conduct EHS inspections, risk assessments, and audits, tracking and escalating corrective and preventive actions as necessary.
  • Act and behave in a manner consistent with the Company values.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in a scientific discipline.
  • 7+ years' experience in EHS program development and implementation.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Masters in science in an EHS related discipline
  • CIH/CSP preferred, CHHM
  • Excellent in Microsoft Office suite of products
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to influence effectively at all levels within the organization
  • Proven capability to lead and motivate teams (line & matrix; and multi-disciplinary & cross-functional) to deliver business solutions and benefits
  • Demonstrate initiative and analytical problem-solving skills - ability to use and interpret data to drive decision making

GSK’s Zebulon site is a global supplier of Respiratory and Solid Dose medicines to patients around the globe and the largest GSK Pharmaceutical secondary manufacturing site in North America. The site is located less than 30 minutes from downtown Raleigh, Wendell, Knightdale, Rocky Mount, Wilson, and Wake Forest.
