PROCESS PROJECT ENGINEER - SLC

Job Description

Thatcher Company is seeking a skilled Chemical Process Engineer to join our dynamic team at our Salt Lake facility. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining and optimizing existing chemical processes to ensure efficient production and adherence to safety and environmental standards. As well as design and implement new processes as needed. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions that enhance company safety, production capabilities and product quality.

               

Primary Responsibilities

 

  • Safety Focus: Promote safety in all aspects of operations to improve the safety record at this facility and throughout the company; includes work performed by contractors.
  • Process Design & Optimization: Develop and optimize chemical processes, ensuring efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
  • Support: Provide support for daily production activities by monitoring process performance, trouble-shooting problems, ordering replacement parts and as needed, implementing corrective actions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Evaluate, recommend, and implement improvements to plant processes and operating procedures.
  • Project Management: Lead and manage engineering projects from conception to execution, including cost estimation, equipment sizing and specifying, permitting, and scheduling.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all processes comply with industry regulations and standards, including safety, health, and environmental guidelines.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with production, quality assurance, and maintenance teams to troubleshoot process issues and improve workflows.
  • Documentation: Prepare piping and instrumentation diagrams (PID), process flow diagrams (PFD’s), and standard operating procedures (SOPs) and adhere to proper management of change (MOC) procedures.
  • Training & Support: Provide technical support and training to operational staff on process and equipment usage.
  • Incident Investigation: Participate in the investigation and corrective actions efforts for your assigned manufacturing processes.

Other Duties as Assigned: Perform all other assigned duties or duties outlined in relevant SOPs.

 

Required Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or related fields.
  • 0-5 years of experience in industrial Process-Engineering and/or Project Engineering.
  • Excellent problem-solving skill and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and regulations.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to size and specify equipment.
  • Basic knowledge and experience with PSM and RMP procedures.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with any of the following software’s AutoCAD LT, Fathom, Arrow, Mathcad, Python, VBA
  • Permitting and construction experience.
  • Process controls experience.
