Process Engineer – Cable & Wire | 1st Shift

We are seeking a Process Engineer – Cable & Wire to join our growing manufacturing team on 1st shift. This role will focus on developing, implementing, and continuously improving manufacturing processes for cable and wire assemblies, ensuring processes are efficient, repeatable, scalable, and capable of meeting customer quality and delivery requirements.

You’ll work closely with Production, Quality, Design Engineering, and Supply Chain to launch new products, improve existing processes, troubleshoot manufacturing issues, and develop solutions that improve quality, productivity, and cost.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and optimize cable and wire assembly manufacturing processes
• Support new product introduction (NPI) and production launches by ensuring processes, tooling, documentation, and equipment are production-ready
• Develop and maintain assembly instructions, process documentation, work instructions, and visual aids
• Establish and improve processes for:
  • Wire preparation and cutting
  • Stripping and termination
  • Crimping and connector assembly
  • Soldering and splicing
  • Cable routing and assembly
  • Labeling and identification
  • Electrical and continuity testing
• Select, develop, and improve fixtures, tooling, gauges, and manufacturing aids
• Evaluate crimping and termination processes and assist with crimp specifications, tooling selection, and process validation
• Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and perform root cause analysis to identify and eliminate recurring problems
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, productivity, efficiency, ergonomics, and cost reduction
• Partner with Production to identify process constraints, improve cycle times, and increase throughput
• Analyze manufacturing data and develop reports, charts, and metrics to identify trends and improvement opportunities
• Collaborate with Design Engineering on Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) initiatives
• Review new product designs and provide feedback regarding cable routing, connector selection, wire specifications, assembly methods, test requirements, and manufacturability
• Support the development and implementation of process controls and inspection methods
• Assist with programming and troubleshooting of wire processing and test equipment
• Research and recommend new cable/wire manufacturing technologies, equipment, tooling, and automation
• Work with suppliers as needed to address manufacturing, tooling, component, and process-related issues
• Ensure manufacturing processes comply with applicable quality standards, customer requirements, and company procedures
• Provide technical support and training to production personnel on new and improved processes

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field with 2+ years of relevant experience, OR
• Associate degree in a technical field with 4+ years of relevant experience, OR
• High school diploma with 6+ years of relevant cable/wire or manufacturing engineering experience
• Experience with cable and wire assembly manufacturing strongly preferred
• Experience in electronics, electromechanical, or contract manufacturing required
• Experience working in a regulated quality environment such as ISO 9001, ISO 13485, or AS9100 preferred

Skills & Knowledge

• Strong knowledge of cable and wire assembly processes
• Experience with wire preparation, stripping, crimping, terminals, connectors, splicing, soldering, and cable assembly
• Knowledge of crimp specifications, applicators, tooling, and crimp quality requirements
• Ability to read and interpret wire lists, schematics, drawings, bills of materials, and engineering documentation
• Familiarity with IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards preferred
• Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles
• Experience with root cause analysis and problem-solving methodologies
• Knowledge of process validation, capability studies, and Design of Experiments (DOE) preferred
• Strong technical writing and documentation skills
• Ability to analyze manufacturing data and present findings using charts and graphs
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Strong organizational, analytical, and multitasking skills
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with both engineering and production teams
