As a member of the continuous improvement team, oversee the operation of cutting-edge automation systems within our 355,000 sq ft pharmaceutical returns warehouse. This role is critical in enhancing operational efficiency and accuracy through the ongoing optimization of advanced technologies. Operates and troubleshoots automation systems, components, or circuits for use within a warehouse environment. May use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform assignments. Applies principles and techniques of mechanical, electrical, or controls engineering to improve equipment reliability, institute innovative solutions and technology to accomplish company goals. Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Works alone or as a team member to manage projects from conception to execution. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
Primary accountabilities:
● Responsible for the ongoing operation and optimization of installed automation systems. This includes identifying and implementing improvements in methods, procedures, technology, equipment, or workflow
to increase throughput and/or accuracy.
● Utilize schematics, drawings, wiring diagrams and instruction manuals to troubleshoot, repair, and optimize mechanical, electrical, and electronic control systems.
● Utilize DMM, ammeter and oscilloscope and other engineering tools to troubleshoot and repair electronic equipment, controls and automation.
● Troubleshoot existing equipment including PLCs with associated I/O and communications, servo drive systems, motion control systems, wiring/cabling, and other electronics commonly found in manufacturing environments.
● Utilize latest software and automation devices and equipment to develop creative solutions to support operational needs.
● Performs multivariable analysis on machine cycle time, yield, OEE, failures, and other relevant metrics to the operation.
● Facilitates FMEA workshops with cross-functional groups to drive continuous improvement in the automation operation.
● Supports the integration, modification, and enhancements of the Warehouse Execution System (MES) in its applications with the installed automations.
● Mitigates the impact of automation downtime. Able to get to the root cause way earlier than operations and fix it.
● Commission and fine tune control systems, working individually or as a member of a team of other engineers, technicians, and contractors.
● Will also be the POC with tech support (internally with techops, external with all the vendors we will integrate with). This role will have system level access to tap in and look for the ACTUAL PROBLEM, and communicate directly with the vendor’s tech support, which in return will expedite the solution.
● Facilitate all preventive maintenance on installed automation.
Required qualifications:
● Bachelor's degree in Engineering (e.g., Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial).
● 4-7 years of experience in controls engineering, automation engineering, or a related field.
● Proven experience with the process engineering of large-scale warehouse automation systems (e.g., ASRS, conveyance, sortation).
● Strong knowledge of PLC programming (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens) and HMI/SCADA systems.
● Experience with vision systems, robotics, and other AI-driven automation is a plus.
● Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong attention to detail.
● Effective communication and project management skills.
