Job Summary:


The Process Engineer is a support role to the Production department, focusing on process improvement, product quality improvement, and cost-saving initiatives.

Essential Duties

  • Safety
    • Daily safety inspections of working areas
    • Daily interaction with hourly teammates to discuss safety issues
    • Enforce strict adherence to all GAF safety policies and procedures
    • Stay informed of industry best safety practices and incorporate them into the Plant operations
  • Performance Metrics
    • Support Production department in achieving the set goals of production rate, machine uptime, and raw material yield
    • Use statistical tools (SPC charts, DOE, Pi trends, Braincube) to minimize variation in the production process
    • Use engineering principles to identify and remove bottlenecks in the manufacturing process
    • Work with hourly teammates to refine procedures and methods to increase production efficiency
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Using knowledge of engineering principles, work with suppliers and vendors to bring new technologies to the Plant
    • Coordinate with the Plant Engineer on capital projects that increase the efficiency of the production line
    • Work with the quality department to identify and correct quality issues stemming from the operation of the manufacturing line
    • Train hourly teammates on production line set-ups to maximize efficiency and finished product performance
    • Coordinate trial planning, implementation, and follow-up with both internal and external customers
  • Environmental
    • Submit required reports to state and federal agencies as dictated by the Plant operating permits
    • Act as main contact for Plant’s environmental consultant
  • Other Duties
    • Carry company provided cell phone to respond to off-hour issues as needed


Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Paper Science required
  • A minimum of 1+ years of manufacturing experience is required; co-op and/or internship experience may satisfy this requirement; roofing or paper industry experience is preferred.

  • Advanced knowledge of engineering principles
  • Knowledge of continuous web manufacturing process


Travel Requirements: 5%
