Job Overview:

Company Overview:

MP Materials (NYSE: MP) is rebuilding American industrial capability for a new era of autonomy, robotics, and electrification.

We are the only U.S. company with a fully integrated rare earth supply chain—from mining and refining to advanced metal and magnet manufacturing. Our products include both the critical materials used to make permanent magnets and the finished magnets themselves—enabling next-generation technologies in robotics, automation, aerospace, transportation, defense, and energy systems. These materials are the foundation of physical AI—the convergence of computation, movement, and control.

We hire ambitious, mission-driven people who want to tackle complex challenges and shape the future of strategic industries. Our culture is rooted in teamwork, resiliency, and integrity, with a deep commitment to operational excellence and national purpose. MP is rapidly evolving from a materials producer into a leading U.S. manufacturer—and our people are driving that transformation.

Position Overview:

MP Materials is seeking a hands-on Process Engineer to be an integral part of the team designing and building a new metal, alloy, and magnet-making facility. The Process Engineer will play a key role in the execution of MP Materials’ mission to restore the full rare earth supply chain to the United States of America. This role will support the first step in our manufacturing process: molten salt electrolysis. The Process Engineer will support development of NdPr metal production in electrolysis, as well as NdFeB flake production in strip casters. The ideal candidate has experience working in a flexible, fast-paced manufacturing environment and enjoys doing hands-on work. This position will support key areas across a broad range of initiatives, including process optimization, equipment improvement, and engineering design. This is an opportunity to be a part of the production team driving the creation of an advanced manufacturing facility and helping to define the future of American manufacturing.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Participate in equipment specification, design reviews, and commissioning of electrolysis lines.
  • Provide the electrolysis operators and technicians with technical training and support.
  • Execute test plans, make detailed observations, and communicate observations to team members.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities to eliminate waste and reduce the overall cost.
  • Install, commission, and operate equipment safely and properly.
  • Communicate progress verbally and through written detailed technical reports and presentations.
  • Develop documentation for process development, data analysis, and equipment commission.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Applied Science, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or 5 years of related experience.
  • Experience in manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with molten metal, high temperature materials, and powder metallurgy.
  • Knowledge of basic metallurgy, machining, and/or mechanical processes and equipment.
  • Strong technical and communication skills to coordinate working with a variety of teammates, execute technical trials, and document processes and results.
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Hands-on, detail-oriented person who can solve problems, exercise sound judgement, and act autonomously in his/her daily work.
