Job Overview:
Atlas Fibre, located in Northbrook, IL, is currently seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to focus on improving operations and processes in our CNC Production environment using best practices and modern machining methodologies. This position performs a pivotal role in optimizing machine efficiency and output, laying out work centers and process flows, collecting and analyzing time study data, and collaborating with machine operators, setup and tooling technicians, programmers and others to minimize waste and maximize throughput in our production operations. The ideal candidate for this role will have at least five years of Manufacturing Engineering experience in high-mix/low-volume “job shop” CNC production environments, with deep knowledge and expertise in modern CNC machines and machining applications, and proficiency in solving complex problems. Knowledge of Lean or Lean/Six Sigma tools and methodologies will be essential to the success of this role. Responsibilities:
Utilize your extensive experience in CNC Manufacturing to ensure optimal machining operations and processes to produce high quality final products.
Advice on best practices to produce customer parts utilizing your experience and understanding of machining methods to match our selection of equipment, tools, work holding, and programming approach to each job.
Support continuous improvement initiatives through the Atlas Fibre CAPA process, 6S findings and corrective actions, and other quality audits required by our customers and external/internal auditors.
Utilize your familiarity of modern manufacturing processes to enhance production efficiency and operational effectiveness.
Foster a positive team environment by effectively communicating with operators, CNC programming engineers, and other team members, while collaboratively addressing challenges and optimizing processes.
Troubleshoot in-process manufacturing and part design issues by providing DFM feedback to optimize manufacturability and reduce costs or wasted material and cycle time.
Help to ensure employee safety through training, compliance with all safety regulations, and active participation in the company’s 6S program.
Assist the CNC Production Manager to create written processes and train operators on how to follow them.
Analyze production data and apply Lean or similar manufacturing methodologies to eliminate waste and improve efficiency and flow.
Create and deploy effective physical layouts that optimize material flow and visual management in all work centers.
Assist the Production Manager to develop and provide weekly metric-based updates to management on production status and progress on key projects.
Other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
A minimum of five years of experience solving problems and optimizing processes in a Manufacturing Engineering role in a CNC production environment. Experience working in high-mix/low-volume “job shop” CNC production environments is strongly preferred.
Experience with CNC automation equipment including fully automated machining centers with pallet/tool changers and robotic load/unload systems. Familiarity with Fastems MMS systems is strongly preferred.
Experience and training on Lean or Lean/Six Sigma methodologies. Green Belt Lean/Six Sigma certification is strongly preferred.
Capacity to excel in a fast-paced manufacturing setting, effectively managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to maintain a steadfast commitment to consistently producing top-quality work.
Engineering degree from an accredited university and/or equivalent work experience in Manufacturing Engineering.
Detailed project management skills and ability to successfully manage multiple complex projects at a time.
Strong collaborator with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills to cooperate with cross-functional teams.
Proficient with ERP and shop floor control software applications, Google, Microsoft Office, or related business software suites. The ability to create written procedures and reports in Word or Docs, and the ability to analyze data and create graphs in Excel or Sheets is essential to this role.
