We are looking for a Process Engineer for our Elgin, IL location. You will be responsible for process oversight and standardization to achieve business targets, with a focus on meeting both customer and Oerlikon standards. The Process Engineer will identify, implement, and sustain process improvements within the organization. The primary focus will be driving continuous improvement across all service-based businesses in local coating centers, enhancing efficiency, reducing waste, and optimizing overall operational performance.

Your Responsibilities
Lead continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing profitability, increasing efficiency, eliminating waste, and fostering a sustainable improvement culture.
Perform thorough analysis of existing processes to identify inefficiencies and opportunities for optimization.
Utilize data-driven decision-making and statistical tools to identify root causes and validate improvements.
Develop and deliver training programs related to Lean Manufacturing to ensure effective rollout of improvement efforts.
Lead improvement projects from planning to completion, ensuring adherence to defined timelines and objectives.
Standardize and maintain SOPs and Work Instructions for all key processes within the facility.
Ensure Oerlikon processes comply with customer specifications and quality standards.
Oversee installation, commissioning, and operational release of new equipment in collaboration with CSC and the Service team.
Support training efforts for Product Engineering and Operations in collaboration with the internal training team.
Partner with the CSC team to support and standardize process execution across machines and workstations.
Ensure all processes are executed in alignment with defined standards and quality requirements by performing process audits
Lead APQP meetings and support developing Control Plans, Process Flow Diagrams and PFMEAs
Facilitating automation of processes to enhance efficiency where feasible.
Your Profile
Minimum 4 year bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Preferred fields of Engineering include Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial, System Design, or Materials. In absence of a bachelor’s degree, an associate’s degree and 2 years of relevant experience is required.
Certified Six Sigma and Lean professional desired
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, including an understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing
Ability to effectively use problem-solving tools such as Pareto Charts, SPC methodologies, cause and effect diagrams as well as 8D or similar problem solving experience
Ability to analyze complex data sets and recognize/quantify trends.
Practical experience with Lean mfg. tools like VSM, SMED, TPM, Standard work etc.
Ability to generate and clearly present technical data to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Thorough experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
Ability to work independently with minimum guidance
Ability to take direction from others
Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to train others
Self-motivated
Organized with a high attention to detail
Pivots easily from failure

Oerlikon is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the current compensation range for this position, which is $109K to $133K base salary. Some positions within Oerlikon may also offer eligibility to participate in a discretionary incentive program. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for the role will be based on a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, internal equity, job location, work experience, education, training, certifications, licenses, etc. Therefore, as compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each individual, it is likely that not all applicants will be hired at the highest end of the listed compensation range. Our total compensation package goes beyond base compensation and it will include a competitive benefits package starting with 2 weeks paid time off accrued on a monthly basis, 12 holidays, 48 hours personal/sick time (exception for NY where we follow State law,) medical, dental, vision, 401K, holidays, pet insurance and tuition reimbursement all effective day one of hire.
