PROCESS ENGINEER 

The Process Engineer role is responsible for translating customer orders and creating production routing, along with other process documentation for the manufacturing of custom forgings. This role is required to investigate alternative process plans that best suits the customer in terms of quality, delivery, and manufacturing cost. Project management of our production process. 

While collaborating with all functions in the organization, the Process Engineer will use problem solving methodology to improve processes, reduce product costs, and eliminate quality problems. This position is responsible for serving the off shifts and other locations, Clinton, WI and Franklin Park, IL. 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interpret industry standards, internal product databases, customer specifications, purchase orders, and blueprints to determine production methods, inspection methods, and proper raw material inputs including material grades & sizes.
  • Create new or modify existing manufacturing plan documents including 30 models, drawings, procedures, routings, work orders, and other instructions, to ensure manufacturing plans result in a compliant and efficiently produced forged product. Must understand the capabilities of all manufacturing processes. Drawings must demonstrate proper tolerancing, including GD&T.
  • Select heat treating processes and material grades to ensure those two in combination will meet contractual and/or industry material properties for strength, fatigue, toughness, etc.
  • Review sales orders and quotes to ensure information meets customer requirements and material is capable of requirements. Estimate costs as required.
  • Determine forging and machining sizes.  Use this information to identify required raw materials sizes and select machining methods to estimate material removal and finished costs.
  • Occasionally provide customer submittals including manufacturing production plans, quality plans, and drawings
  • Understanding quality procedures and industry requirements, execute final quality review for manufacturing documents prior to release into manufacturing. This role requires the engineer to review his/her own work prior to release as there are rarely further quality checks. Risk exposure will typically range from $1K to $50K per order with delivery impacts.
  • Ensure manufacturing plans are executable by collaborating with all levels of the factory, metallurgy, heat-treat, and sales.
  • Up to 25% working directly with manufacturing teams, to ensure manufacturing plans are executable and compliant to customer or industry specifications. Tasks may include developing procedures, improving data collection systems, and other tasks to build repeatable manufacturing processes.
  • Using problem solving methodologies, investigate non-conforming product, determine root cause, and implement corrective actions. Develop repair work instructions. Support lean manufacturing or continuous improvement projects throughout the business.
  • Track and process change orders driven by external or internal customers.

 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering discipline or equivalent 5+ years of experience in technical/manufacturing field.
  • Preferred 1-2 yrs. experience in a Process Engineering/Manufacturing Engineering role
  • Strong, detailed oriented, technical writing and communication skills are required
  • Ability to read and interpret complex and overlapping industrial specifications.
  • Technical individual who understands material specifications, costing, shop floor terminology and manufacturing processes including CNC machining methods
  • Must demonstrate ability to perform in a highly collaborative team environment while being self-directed
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Proficient in solid modeling (preferred SolidWorks)
  • Preferred exposure or demonstrated use of continuous improvement methods
  • Ability to work safely in a shop atmosphere.
  • Knowledge of Metallurgy and Material capabilities is preferred

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
 Office environment with occasional (<10%) exposure to noise and heat in manufacturing facility.
 Occasional travel to other manufacturing locations
