Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Must ensure safe work practices are being followed.
  • Individual must be a hands-on leader with strong writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to learn the manufacturing process and contribute to improving these processes.
  • Troubleshooting of process equipment (extrusion, vacuum forming, injection molding, printing, labeling).
  • Manage, prioritize and complete projects or programs of moderate to large size, scope, and duration.
  • Coordinate project work with other engineers, technicians, and other project stakeholders as well as with the plant floor team members.
  • Lead process failure discussions and investigations to ensure consistency of solutions across all facilities.
  • Assist technicians with assembly and disassembly of process equipment and components to diagnose issues.
  • Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for equipment processes.
  • Key member of continuous improvement team focused on improving Yield Efficiency (OEE) in department of focus.
  • Establish continuous improvement plans where efficiency, quality, safety, or service level can be improved.
  • Create test parameters and participate in the testing, data analysis, and implementation of processes, equipment, and engineering solutions.
  • Identify broad conceptual ideas and develop them into useful solutions.
  • Mentor lower level engineers, maintenance, and others about best practices.
  • Must possess process troubleshooting skills to respond to and drive performance/people development.
  • Support all company policies and procedures including 5S and focused work teams.
  • Lead by example and perform all job duties in accordance with The HC Companies values.
  • Perform other administrative tasks and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications


Experience (preferred or required):

  • Bachelors degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university with focus on Chemical, Materials, or Mechanical Engineering and three or more years of experience in plastic processing (injection molding, extrusion, thermoforming and/or vacuum forming technology).
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point.
  • Continuous improvement experience including LEAN and Six Sigma.

Position Requirements and Skills:

  • Strong chemical and mechanical aptitude, preferably in the plastics industry.
  • Ability to be shift flexible as business demands require.
  • Must possess good communication/interpersonal skills necessary to communicate intricate job-related information.
  • Ability to work in a team oriented work environment.
  • Ability to manage time well.
  • Excellent organization and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience analyzing production equipment, processes and materials and solving issues.
  • Knowledge of various statistical and quality methodologies including but not limited to Statistical Process Control (SPC), 5S, 5 Why, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), DOE, and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Prior experience working with plastic processing equipment and processes.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to design and production.
  • Experience with CAD.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, material properties, and their impact on plastic processing.
  • Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, or approaches to problems.
  • Ability to successfully prioritize, and organize projects, deadlines, and tasks with little supervision in a team environment.
  • Upward potential to manage others, in addition to the support role.
  • Negative pre-employment drug screen and ability to pass criminal background check.
  • Excellent attendance record.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% as required to support the business.
