SUMMARY:
The Process Engineer for plasma spray coating is responsible for the daily monitoring, control, and continuous improvement of the plasma spray coating process to ensure consistent product quality, optimal operation efficiency, and minimized scrap.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Accountable to ensure all products/processes are designed with the six sigma philosophy - DFSS
- Develops, selects and implements engineering techniques and solutions to solve difficult problems
- Initiates, recommends, and provides solutions for process optimization to improve reliability
- Lead root cause analysis for process deviations and defects
- Continuously monitor, verify and maintain all process inputs and conditions, including ensuring parts are correctly fixtured and masked.
- Ensure all pre-coating processes are performed per specification to ensure coating adhesion and quality
- Work on cross functional teams such as tooling designers and robot programmers to provide feedback for improvements
- Develop and maintain statistical process control (SPC) charts
- Maintain accurate process documentation
- Interpretation of technical drawings and compare to quality reports
- Provides engineering support including plasma spray process support
- Understanding basic operation of gas panels and plasma systems operation
- Understanding basic operation of robotic arms
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- BS or MS in Manufacturing Engineering, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related degree
- 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience implementing and maintaining SPC charts
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Hands-on experience with production equipment
- Ability to work cross-functionally
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proactive and self-starter
- Experience in SolidWorks design (a plus)
- Knowledge of robot operations (a plus)

- Sitting for long periods of time, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, use hands to finger, handle, or feel parts; reach with hands and arms; and talk and/or hear instructions.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
- Close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to differentiate shades and color to identify defects.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT OF THE JOB:
- Low noise levels in office environment.
- Occasional moderate noise levels and working near moving mechanical parts.
- Fast paced.
