Process Engineer (Contract to Permanent)

Location: Monroe, Michigan

Duration: 6 Month Contract

Potential: Opportunity to transition into a permanent position based on business needs and performance.

Shift: Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM

Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Process Engineer to join a growing manufacturing operation on a 6 month contract. This role offers the opportunity to become a permanent member of the team for the right candidate.

You'll play a key role in improving manufacturing processes, supporting production, and driving continuous improvement projects. This position requires someone who enjoys spending time on the shop floor, working closely with production teams, and turning engineering ideas into practical manufacturing solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and improve manufacturing processes to increase efficiency, quality, and productivity
  • Lead process optimization projects using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies
  • Develop and implement process improvements through data analysis and Design of Experiments (DOE)
  • Create engineering drawings, tooling concepts, fixtures, and manufacturing documentation
  • Support production teams by troubleshooting manufacturing and process-related issues
  • Coordinate projects and activities across Engineering, Production, Maintenance, and Quality departments
  • Develop and maintain process documentation, work instructions, and engineering standards
  • Provide strong technical support during new process implementation and equipment improvements
  • Maintain a visible presence on the manufacturing floor, driving process ownership and continuous improvement

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Plastics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Six Sigma Green Belt (or higher) with practical experience using Design of Experiments (DOE)
  • Strong understanding of heat transfer, thermodynamics, cooling rates, material shrinkage, and internal stress within manufacturing processes
  • Experience with Autodesk products, including AutoCAD and Inventor
  • Ability to create detailed engineering drawings for machine shop fabrication and manufacturing applications
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple departments
  • Hands-on mechanical aptitude with experience developing tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing solutions
  • Experience creating and maintaining manufacturing process documentation

Preferred Experience

Experience in one or more of the following manufacturing processes is highly desirable:

  • Plastics manufacturing
  • Extrusion
  • Injection molding
  • Compression molding
  • PTFE extrusion
  • Sintering operations
  • Heat treating
  • Casting
  • Annealing
  • Process control and continuous improvement initiatives
