Job Description

Role: Process Engineer
Location: Chester, South Carolina

Job Summary

The Process Engineer will provide technical process engineering support at IKO’s new greenfield Fiberglass Mat Plant in Chester, South Carolina, scheduled to start up in Q1–Q2 of 2025. The initial focus of this role is to lead the process engineering operational readiness plan to ensure a successful plant start-up. Following start-up, the role will provide ongoing technical support to optimize cost, quality, productivity, and reliability. This includes leading teams in continuous improvement activities to drive waste elimination and variation reduction while ensuring consistent and reliable operations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Define and resolve process problems through individual and team-based continuous improvement initiatives

  • Develop standard work and ensure operators and supervisors are trained and engaged in running processes consistently

  • Create layered process audits, control and reaction procedures, and standard work for all processes

  • Commission new production equipment and processes; monitor upgrades and troubleshoot existing processes

  • Collaborate with the Senior Manufacturing Engineer and Production Manager to improve efficiency, output, and safety

  • Collect and interpret operational data to develop and implement process improvements

  • Measure, test, and evaluate product characteristics for consistency and compliance

  • Manage process changes from conception through to production implementation

  • Provide technical leadership for environmental monitoring and plant environmental processes

  • Work with operators and staff overseeing quality control, raw materials, finished products, maintenance, and production schedules

  • Identify root causes of issues and proactively recommend corrective actions

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering required

  • 3–5 years of hands-on process engineering experience in manufacturing, preferably in fiberglass mat, paper making, or other coating processes

  • Related experience in quality management, quality engineering, or technical process roles considered an asset

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Strong technical writing skills with attention to detail

  • Lean Six Sigma skills and experience preferred

  • Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC) helpful

  • Advanced analytical and troubleshooting skills with creativity in problem solving

  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple short- and long-term projects

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal, presentation)

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision once assigned general objectives
