Position Summary:

The Process Engineer supports all aspects of the production function within the company in both a practical and technical capacity. Evaluates existing cable related processes and configures manufacturing systems to reduce cost, improve sustainability and develop best practices within the production processes. Responsible for recommending and researching new and innovative methods or equipment, to improve the manufacturability of both current and new company products. Works along with the trainer to compile training programs for production staff.

Essential Functions:

  • Evaluate and improve upon processes in the manufacturing area.
  • Develop innovative process and methods to solve current production inefficiencies & process difficulties. (i.e., production rates, efficiencies, product yields, costs and changeovers) 
  • Improve process capability and production volume while maintaining and improving Product quality.
  • Develop trial strategies for new product offerings.
    • Oversee the processing/testing of trial samples
    • Collect, record, and report trial data 
  • Document and Report results on existing products and processes.        
  • Perform new compound trials and substantiate use for production.
  • Develop and implement systems that optimize all phases of production processes.
  • Work with equipment designers and manufacturing staff to develop & to refine cost-effective production processes.  
  • Ensure projects are completed as scheduled and in a timely manner. Provide ample warnings to staff of delays which might impact other project deadlines.
  • Research and recommend new manufacturing technology.

Knowledge:

  • Experience with polymer processing (extrusion preferred)
  • Knowledge of and ability to use problem solving tools such as root cause analysis, 5 Why, and fishbone diagrams.
  • Ability to lead teams and run meetings.
  • Ability to evaluate and analyze complex process data.
  • Experience with working in multi-functional teams
  • Ability to present data and conclusions to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Use micrometers, calipers, and other handheld measurement instruments.
  • Ability to manage workload to achieve delivery dates.
  • Experience with reading and interpreting industry standards.
  • Must read, write, and communicate in English.

  • Mechanical Aptitude
  • ISO 9001 systems
  • Wire and cable manufacturing
  • Understanding of statistics
  • Statistical process control
  • 5S experience
  • Understanding of calibration

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Engineering in one of the following specialties: Quality, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Processing.
  • 3+ years in a Process Engineer role - preferred
