JOB SUMMARY
The Process Control Technician is responsible for field support and continuous improvement on all plant control systems at Richards Spur Quarry. This role will proactively collaborate with internal stakeholders, plant maintenance, and quality control to execute projects and optimize plant performance by using existing plant PLC, HMI interface (Ignition), and (SCADA) platforms.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Utilize indicators from automated plant controls to diagnose problems (quality control and plant performance) to provide corrective action
- Utilize plant data trends on plant SCADA platform to perform root cause analysis for plant downtime events and process performance inhibitors
- Identify, plan, and execute plant performance improvement projects
- Troubleshoot PLC and Networking issues that arise and collaborate with appropriate parties to remedy the problem
- Intimately understand plant flow, plant automation systems, and mechanical equipment operation to optimize daily production
- Build effective relationships with plant support personnel to rally resources during downtime or upset plant conditions
- Promote and maintain a culture and attitude of continual improvement, working within the Dolese team to make it an efficient, safe, and enjoyable place to work
- Analyze existing data to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and opportunities for improvement
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure process performance i.e. reliability and maintenance, quality control
- Collaborate with Engineering and Operational Technology/Automation personnel to continuously improve plant performance
- Collaborate with Plant Operations Technician and Operations Production Technicians to identify opportunities for improvement in all areas of the plant
- Other duties and responsibilities related to the nature of the job may be assigned on a temporary or permanent basis as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM field of study or related field AND at least 2 years of experience directly related to automated systems technology, industrial automation, supervisory control and data acquisition systems, and field instrumentation systems required OR
- Associate’s degree in STEM field of study or related field AND at least 3 years of experience directly related to automated systems technology, industrial automation, supervisory control and data acquisition systems, and field instrumentation systems required OR
- High school diploma or equivalent AND at least 5 years of experience directly related to automated systems technology, industrial automation, supervisory control and data acquisition systems, and field instrumentation systems required
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of SCADA/HMI software platforms (FactoryTalk View, Ignition, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of PLC software platforms (Studio 5000, RSLogix 5, RSLogix 500, Connected Component Workbench, Siemens TIA Portal, GE Proficy, Automation Direct, Modicon, Schneider Electric, IDEC, etc.)
- Strong knowledge and understanding of industrial ethernet communications protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP, OPC/UA, OPC/DA, MQTT, Profinet, etc.)
- Strong knowledge and understanding of industrial serial/fieldbus protocols (Modbus RTU, DNP3, ControlNet, DeviceNet, CANBus, Automation Direct Koyo, DH485, DF1, RemoteIO, Data Highway Plus, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of IEC 61131-3 Programming Languages are Ladder, Sequential Function Chart, Function Block Diagram, Instruction List, and Structured Text
- Strong knowledge of control/power circuit wiring
- Strong knowledge of field instrumentation equipment used for measurement, alarming, and control
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products
- Applied knowledge of basic industrial layer 3 networking
- Applied knowledge of wireless telemetry systems
- Applied knowledge of variable frequency drives, soft starters, and motor starters
- Applied knowledge of electrical power distribution and motor control centers (MCC)
- Applied knowledge of low voltage control system hardware (120VAC and below)
- Applied knowledge of low voltage three phase systems (up to 600VAC)
- Applied knowledge of medium voltage three phase systems (up to 4160VAC)
- Basic knowledge of database management systems (Microsoft SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.)
- Basic knowledge of object-oriented programming languages (Python, C++, C#, etc.)
- Basic knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL)
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and electrical drawings
- Ability to read and interpret single line power distribution diagrams
- Ability to read and interpret a functional specification provided by a client to develop PLC/SCADA software applications efficiently and accurately to specification
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical problems with a digital multimeter
- Ability to troubleshoot automated system hardware with a digital multimeter
- Ability to troubleshoot motor control circuits with a digital multimeter

- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with good driving record

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Lift, push, or pull objects of various dimensions up to 75 lbs. of weight occasionally
- Ability to repeatedly climb stairs and climb ladders
- Ability to repeatedly balance, bend from the trunk, crawl, kneel, push and pull objects
- Ability to tolerate working in all environmental temperatures and weather conditions
- Ability to repeatedly reach, squat, or walk on uneven surfaces
- Ability to perform 80% sedentary work and tolerate prolonged standing/sitting/walking
- Ability to use hands and fingers to handle or feel
- Ability to verbally communicate, hear, and see
