Job Overview:

The Neil Jones Food Company is an industry leader, processing superior quality fresh-packed, vine-ripened California tomatoes and Pacific Northwest fruit. Headquartered in Vancouver, Washington, NJFC has been providing our nation’s discerning foodservice, retail, industrial and institutional customers with the finest quality canned and pouched products for over 50 years. NJFC operates three production facilities: Northwest Packing in Vancouver, WA.; San Benito Foods, in Hollister, CA; and Toma-Tek in Firebaugh, CA.  

 

We are looking for a Process Controls Engineering Manager who will be an active member of the production management team and is responsible for enhancing the performance and efficiency of our operations by providing automation solutions for two tomato processing manufacturing facilities in Firebaugh and Hollister, CA. Projects include both retrofits and new systems involving PLCs, industrial computers, process instrumentation, other control devices and project management. This position is responsible for developing materials specification, equipment schedules, and PLC and HMI programming at our TomaTek plant in Firebaugh, CA.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Plans and manages all aspects of process control engineering projects and systems for both tomato processing plants.
  • Develops and maintains thorough understanding of the processes being controlled and the requirements for completion.
  • Actively participates in production management meetings to provide technical leadership and support for the operation, maintenance and continuous improvement of manufacturing instrumentation and process control systems.
  • Manages the day-to-day operational and tactical aspects of multiple small to medium scale improvement projects.
  • Ensures troubleshooting and replacement of system hardware, resolution of software malfunctions and installation of software upgrades.

 

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; or, any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the key responsibilities of this position.
  • At least 7 years related experience to include large process control system programming experience with good working knowledge of aseptic and fluid flow process control systems using PLC and HMI architecture.
  • 3 years’ experience in managing performance, coaching, training and development; experience in food processing manufacturing preferred.
  • Ability to effectively lead and manager projects and regularly travel to San Benito Foods, our Hollister, CA location.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test, background check including employment and educational verification, credit screen, and to work extended schedule and weekends during the fresh pack season, typically July to early October.

 

Compensation: 

The salary range is $150,000 - $165,000, based on experience and qualifications.
