Hybrid: This means the successful candidate is expected to report to their primary location (Milford, MI) three times per week, at minimum.

Relocation:

The Role:

In this job, you will provide technical leadership in the development of holistic vehicle motion control strategies by leveraging all available chassis motion actuators — including brakes, steering, suspension, and propulsion. You will also drive innovation that unlocks new levels of performance and safety, delivering exceptional value to customers and setting a new benchmark for the industry.

What You’ll do:

  • Provide technical leadership in achieving world-class chassis controls performance by applying deep theoretical and practical expertise in advanced technologies, complex systems, and cutting-edge engineering concepts.
  • Develop, plan, and own the delivery of critical Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Key Strategic Initiatives (KSIs) that directly influence chassis controls performance and align with GM’s broader business objectives.
  • Tackle complex, multidimensional challenges in advanced chassis controls by developing strategic, high-impact innovations and solutions that directly advance the organization’s strategic goals.
  • Balance the exploration of emerging controls technologies with the deployment of proven advanced methods in production, enabling continued expansion of GM’s controls capabilities while ensuring timely and effective delivery of near-term program features.
  • Continually push the boundaries of technology to define and lead the next state-of-the-art in control system design and simulation.
  • Research and assess the latest controls technologies by engaging with the global engineering community through conferences and forums, and translate insights into strategies that expand GM’s technical leadership in chassis controls.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • MS in Engineering to include Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, Computer Engineering and Mathematics.
  • Strong background in developing and delivering complex chassis controls features at technical leader level
  • Technical leadership experience developing and optimizing different chassis controls actuators, such as brakes, steering and suspension
  • Technical curiosity and the desire to continuously learn new areas
  • Skilled with Simulink, MATLAB, plant modeling and/or analysis tools
  • Embedded controls development experience
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with sometimes incomplete requirements
  • High level of analytical problem-solving skills where problems are unusual and difficult Manage complex projects and assignments with a high level of autonomy and accountability for results
  • Lead multi-functional teams and achieve substantial influence without administrative authority
  • Demonstrated honesty, integrity, and trust. Lead by example Ability to communicate clearly complex technical issues, solutions etc. to different audiences

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills)

  • PhD in Engineering or Applied Mathematics with focus on controls and/or optimization In depth knowledge of controls development and calibration for vehicle dynamics, thermal & propulsion system controls
  • Sophisticated sub-system integration including design, implementation, and testing
  • Experience architecting ADAS/AV and chassis controls system integration and harmonization
  • System Modeling and Simulation (Software, Hardware, Model in-the-loop).
  • Controls software development in C Programming
  • Familiarity with embedded controller and computing hardware Vehicle Propulsion, Chassis Control and Battery High Voltage, Vehicle Energy Transfer, Charging and Automotive System knowledge is a plus
  • Familiarity with other programming language

Company Vehicle: Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, through which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies.
