We are looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our team in one of today’s most exciting technologies. This role will report to Sr. Principal Engineer and based in San Jose, CA.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • New product development
  • Design and development of electrical power generation systems.
  • Start to finish ownership of total system electrical design – requirements documentation, concept selection, detailed design, release to manufacturing, and field support.
  • Design physical layer of serial communication networks.
  • Development of DFMEA and HazOp analyses for complex electromechanical systems.
  • Vendor selection, specification development, design validation and compliance testing.
  • Design new adaptations or modifications to existing products to increase reliability, improve performance, and reduce costs.
  • Troubleshoot, define, and initiate corrective actions for field failures as well as production issues.
  • Work with in-house power electronics designs as well as work with third party power converter manufacturers to develop custom solutions.
  • Cross-functional work with mechanical, controls, and electronics engineers to develop complete system architectures.
  • Active engagement with supply chain, manufacturing, installations, and field service experts to deliver designs through the complete product lifecycle.

Skills and Experience:

  • BSEE in Electrical Engineering
  • Ten or more years’ experience in development of complex electrical power systems.
  • Experience using quality tools like FMEA, RCA and fault tree analysis.
  • Ability to handle design leadership and project management responsibility for multiple projects.
  • Working experience with UL standards addressing power systems such as UL 508, UL 98, UL 498, or UL 1741.
  • Working experience defining grounding, bonding, and shielding for electrical systems.
  • Understanding of overvoltage protection schemes and insulation coordination.
  • Understanding of overcurrent protection coordination and short circuit analysis.
  • Experience developing electrical power generation devices.
  • Experience designing for hazardous environments preferred.
  • Proficiency with EE tools such as oscilloscopes or power analyzers in troubleshooting high power, high voltage equipment in laboratory and field environments preferred.
  • Experience leading a team of electrical design engineers preferred.

Salary Ranges:

$162,400.00 - $233,600.00
