Emerson is currently seeking a Principal Certification Engineer in Shakopee, MN.  The individual selected for this position will play a critical role in ensuring that new product designs align with  related product safety standards and meet company objectives for safety, quality, cost, schedule, and performance.  Additionally, this role will perform sustainment engineering related tasks, create test plans and perform product testing.

In this Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

  • Working with multi-functional teams including design engineers and product/project managers to create new products to meet global hazardous location approval requirements
  • Interpreting product safety standards and apply the requirements to new and existing product designs
  • Building technical justification and prepare technical documents to demonstrate compliance and support product certification
  • Creating test plans in accordance with global standards and procedures
  • Conducting tests in product certification lab
  • Interacting directly with third party certification agencies
  • Maintaining certifications, procedures, as well as provide support for manufacturing, design, product management and other functions as needed
  • Participating in Audits as the need arises

For This Role, You Will Need:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an engineering school
  • Eight (8) years of related experience
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States
  • Ability to work in a laboratory environment including setting up, troubleshooting, and completing required tests
Preferred Qualifications that Set You Apart:
  • ABET-accredited degree
  • Have an interest in industry standards and how they influence product design and development
  • Experience with Flameproof/Explosion-Proof Approvals
  • Knowledge of product safety standards (FM, CSA, ATEX, IECEx)
