GD-OTS is looking for an Principal Automation Engineer-Technology to join our Lincoln, NE organization. We are expanding rapidly and looking for motivated and creative individuals who want to help support and shape this organization as we grow.


GD-OTS provides reliable and affordable composite products to the defense and commercial aerospace markets. With more than 50 years of expertise, General Dynamics designs, develops, manufactures and tests a full range of composite missile and space structures, including rocket motors, pressure vessels, launch tubes and fuel tanks.

Major Position Responsibilities

  • For any relevant step in the manufacturing process, the Automation Engineers can be tasked with designing, simulating, installing, testing and managing an electrical or mechanical automation. This automation will typically result in a machine or robotic element carrying out the process.
  • Manage individual projects and mentor more junior Automation Engineers in the scoping, execution, and documentation of automation projects.
  • Developing and maintaining clear and accurate documentation of automation equipment or processes.
  • Apply machine control and system application technologies to automate manufacturing processes while: accounting for the safety of the facility and its staff, improving efficiencies, maintaining/improving product quality, and adhering to internal company SOPs.
  • Assist with the development of new equipment specifications, supplier selection, quote reviews and technical support through design, installation, and verification activities.
  • Identification of new opportunities for automation within the manufacturing process and helping justify which projects to implement based on quality improvements and/or cost savings potential.
  • Staff training where necessary – typically after implementing new processes or equipment, or making changes to existing ones.
  • Troubleshooting automated processes or equipment when errors occur.

Basic Qualifications

Minimum, B.S. in applicable engineering or technical discipline. Minimum 5 years experience in applicable field preferred.


Experience with some combination of:

  • Allen Bradley PLC programming
  • Allen Bradley HMI programming
  • Siemens PLC and/or NCU programming
  • Ignition SCADA system client development and scripting
  • Drafting Electrical, Piping, and Instrumentation Schematics
