JOB SUMMARY 

As part of our recent growth, we are seeking an experienced Primer Painter to join our team. The ideal candidate will perform spray application of primer to the surfaces of manufactured aerospace parts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inspect parts prior to painting to identify damage, defects, or processing issues; coordinate with the Quality Department as needed before proceeding. 
  • Prepare parts for painting by ensuring surfaces are clean and free of dirt or foreign materials; communicate racking position, setup, and layout to Paint Helpers. 
  • Select, mix, and apply paint according to work order specifications using appropriate methods (e.g., spray gun or tube application). 
  • Maintain knowledge of current specifications and requirements; clean and maintain spray equipment, paint areas, and mixing rooms, including changing filters as needed. 
  • Handle hazardous materials safely, including proper waste disposal and labeling, while following all safety procedures and regulations. 
  • Consistently wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including proper respirator use and maintenance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Ability to apply all types of primer paints in accordance with specifications. 
  • Ability to prioritize and manage work independently using established criteria (e.g., part size, application, and rack usage). 
  • Strong adaptability and willingness to take on new responsibilities and challenges in a dynamic work environment. 
  • Ability to identify, organize, and evaluate information, including recognizing similarities and differences and performing basic math calculations. 
  • Manual dexterity, including the ability to quickly and accurately grasp and manipulate parts using hands and arms.

 LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English through verbal communication, American Sign Language, or adaptive technology

CONFIDENTIALITY

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • High school education or GED; or
  • Six (6) months to one (1) year related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Constant exposure to an indoor manufacturing environment with moderate noise and hazardous materials (liquid, aerated, and solid). 
  • Constant standing, walking, reaching, and use of hands for non-forceful grasping, fine manipulation, and repetitive motion. 
  • Constant use of respiratory protection; employees must be clean-shaven daily where required. 
  • Frequent bending, squatting, and twisting. 
  • Occasional sitting at a computer workstation and working above shoulder level. 
  • Occasional lifting or moving of up to 25 lbs, and seldom lifting or moving of up to 40 lbs.

Constant (5-8 hrs. /shift)

Frequent (2-5 hrs. /shift)

Occasional (Up to 2 hrs. /shift)

SALARY DESCRIPTION

Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only. Salaries are based on candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. Skills Inc. is a self-supporting social enterprise organized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We have three lines of business: Aerospace Manufacturing, Aerospace Finishing, and Business Solutions, which operate in 2 locations. Skills Inc. employs over 250 people, and our social mission is to train, employ, and serve persons with disabilities. We accomplish our mission in three ways: direct hire, vocational programs and services, and serving as a resource to the community.

Salary Range: $18.00-$33.00

  • 4th shift is eligible for a shift differential based on 36 hours *
