Description
The Press Operator I has a sound understanding of entire extrusion process. The Press Operator I will mentor and coach their teams throughout the extrusion process focusing on the “Team Approach”. The Press Operator I will focus their teams and the rest of extrusion on safety and quality concerns and facilitate corrective action. This role will also facilitate daily team meetings and work with the production floor to ensure KPI goals are met and sustained. The Press Operator I works closely with plant leadership and department employees to achieve results. This position requires demonstrated capacity as a competent press operator, team lead, and proven troubleshooting skills.
Responsibilities
- Perform duties of Press Operator I, and any other Extrusion I or II roles as required
- Focus their teams to identify and implement countermeasures to prevent and address safety and quality concerns
- Conducts team meetings to review and eliminate obstacles that prevent the teams from achieving established goals
- Acts as a team resource for continuous improvement through training, coaching, and mentoring the team through the improvement process
- Works with the Tubelite team to complete root cause analysis and facilitates countermeasures
- Supports the management team in tracking and auditing training for the extrusion team
- Focuses their teams to complete the required 5S audits and establishes countermeasures to close the gaps
- Schedule adherence; focusing on the expediting of past due orders
- Demonstrated capacity to operate the extrusion presses efficiently with the ability to troubleshoot extrusion concerns and implement countermeasures
- Perform other duties and requirements as assigned by management when the need arises
- Aid the Shift Supervisors with Monthly Safety Training- Schedule team members and sign offs
Position Requirements
- Minimum of 6 months of operator experience and meeting Extrusion II requirements
- Comprehensive understanding of the aluminum extrusion process
- Ability to run at least 1 press independently
- Must have the ability to independently run the saw, saw tail, run the stretcher, and die set.
- Understanding of continuous improvement with a desire to learn more
- Experience in coaching and training others
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to effectively facilitate team meetings
- Able to lead change, set and achieve high expectations with sustained results
- Analytical approach with focus on troubleshooting and corrective action of extrusion concerns
