Position Summary

This role supports our commercial division by increasing bid capacity so we can pursue qualified opportunities without slowing down the rest of the business. This person will handle estimating and designing the Tharp division and project coordination for the Boulder Mills division. When bid activity is lighter, they will step in as a working designer on commercial projects.

Primary Responsibilities

Estimating

• Evaluate bid opportunities and determine project fit before committing resources.

• Lead the preparation of complete, accurate bid packages for qualified commercial projects.

• Develop pricing strategies including options and value engineering to support the sales process.

• Coordinate with vendors, reps, and subcontractors for pricing and lead times.

• Manage bid schedules, deadlines, and overall pipeline visibility.

• Track bid results and maintain data to improve future go/no-go decisions.

Design

• Produce accurate, client-ready space plans and product layouts.

• Develop specifications, cut sheets, and presentation materials to support the sales process.

• Collaborate with account managers on product selection, substitutions, and finish options.

• Support the design team during peak periods and contribute to project work when bid workload is low.

Project Coordination

• Order samples and support the Project Manager as needed.

• Interpret punch lists and coordinate parts and service.

• Help identify and resolve issues with internal teams.

• Track action items and follow up to keep projects moving.

• Maintain organization across emails, calls, and project details.

• Work with internal teams to confirm scope, timelines, and expectations.

• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications

Required

• Formal training or degree in interior design, architecture, or a related field.

• Ability to learn Cabinet Vision and produce complete commercial drawings independently.

• Strong Excel skills with the ability to build and maintain pricing models, comparisons, and bid summaries.

• Ability to read and interpret commercial construction documents and specifications.

• Detail-oriented with strong organizational habits and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.

Preferred

• Prior experience in commercial furniture, flooring, or interiors estimating or project coordination.

• Familiarity with commercial bid processes including public sector, GC-driven, or design-build projects.

What Success Looks Like

• We pursue the right projects and quickly decline ones that are not a fit.

• Bids go out on time without pulling the entire team off other work.

• Pricing is competitive, accurate, and presented with clear options.

Work Environment

• Office-based with occasional site visits or client meetings as needed.

• Workload will be variable — intensive during active bid periods, design-focused during slower cycles.

• Works closely with account managers, project coordinators, and leadership.
