Job Overview:

Position Summary

The Precision Machining Technician is responsible for operating and maintaining precision machining and finishing equipment used in the production of high-tolerance aerospace and military components. This role ensures all parts meet rigorous dimensional, surface, and quality standards in compliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, and applicable DoD or OEM specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and monitor precision machining equipment such as lathes, mills, grinders, and lapping/polishing machines.

  • Interpret and work from engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical process instructions.

  • Perform surface finishing operations (lapping, polishing, honing, or grinding) to achieve required tolerances and surface finishes.

  • Measure and inspect parts using micrometers, bore gauges, profilometers, CMMs, and optical comparators.

  • Maintain strict adherence to aerospace/military manufacturing standards (AS9100, ITAR, NADCAP, etc.).

  • Record inspection results, maintain process documentation, and ensure traceability of manufactured parts.

  • Identify and correct machining or process deviations; communicate with engineering and quality teams as needed.

  • Perform preventive maintenance on machines and tooling to maintain optimal performance and accuracy.

  • Follow all EHS (Environmental, Health & Safety) and 5S/Lean Manufacturing practices.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; technical/vocational training in precision machining or manufacturing technology preferred.

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in precision machining, grinding, or finishing within an aerospace, defense, or high-tolerance environment.

  • Proficiency with blueprint reading, GD&T, and precision measuring instruments.

  • Working knowledge of CNC and/or manual machining equipment; experience with lapping and polishing equipment a plus.

  • Familiarity with quality management systems (QMS) and process documentation per AS9100 or MIL-SPEC requirements.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and commitment to product quality and safety.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain U.S. security clearance (if required for program or facility).
