PLC Technician / Controls Technician

Location: Magnolia, MS 39652

We are looking for an experienced PLC Technician / Controls Technician to join our team in Magnolia. In this role, you’ll troubleshoot electrical and controls issues, respond to production downtime, and support ongoing maintenance projects. The facility has a mix of older equipment and PLC platforms, so we’re looking for someone who can work through unfamiliar problems even when documentation is limited.

Responsibilities:

• Troubleshoot electrical and controls issues on production equipment to help restore operations.

• Connect a laptop to PLCs, follow the logic, and identify what is causing a machine to stop.

• Troubleshoot PLC inputs and outputs, photoeyes, sensors, VFDs, and analog and digital signals.

• Read and interpret electrical schematics and machine diagrams.

• Work with Allen-Bradley PLCs, especially PLC-5 and 5000 systems, as well as other PLC platforms.

• Determine when an apparent controls issue has a mechanical cause.

• Attend shift handoffs, review downtime from the previous shift, and prioritize work orders.

• Support ongoing projects; heavier project work generally takes place on Saturdays and Sundays.

• Communicate findings and repair needs to maintenance and production teams.

Qualifications:

• 8+ years of industrial maintenance experience with a strong electrical and controls background.

• Hands-on experience connecting to PLCs and using the logic to troubleshoot machine faults.

• Experience troubleshooting Allen-Bradley PLCs, particularly PLC-5 and 5000 systems.

• Ability to read electrical schematics and machine diagrams.

• Experience with photoeyes, sensors, VFDs, PLC I/O, and analog and digital signals.

• Strong problem-solving skills when working with older equipment or limited documentation.

• Mechanical troubleshooting knowledge is a plus.

This position focuses on troubleshooting existing systems rather than PLC programming. It’s a good fit for a technician who enjoys finding the cause of difficult equipment problems and helping keep production running.
