Position Overview:
The Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the shop floor, ensuring production efficiency, product quality, and workplace safety. This position involves managing a team of operators, technicians, and laborers while coordinating with other departments to meet production goals and customer expectations. The Shop Supervisor will be responsible for maintaining a positive, organized, and productive work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Supervision: Lead, manage, and motivate the shop floor team to ensure optimal performance, high morale, and a collaborative work environment. This includes setting daily production goals and monitoring progress.
- Production Planning & Scheduling: Coordinate and schedule daily production activities, ensuring the efficient flow of materials, equipment, and personnel. Monitor progress against production timelines and make adjustments as necessary.
- Quality Control: Ensure all products and processes meet established quality standards. Oversee inspections, identify defects or process issues, and implement corrective actions when necessary.
- Workplace Safety: Enforce company safety policies and ensure that all workers comply with safety standards. Promote a culture of safety, provide necessary training, and perform safety audits.
- Workplace 5S: Drive 5S activities throughout the plant to improve uptime and created and optimized working environment.
- Equipment & Maintenance Oversight: Ensure that all equipment is in good working condition and that any maintenance or repairs are promptly addressed to minimize downtime.
- Training & Development: Provide training to employees on shop floor procedures, safety protocols, and machinery operation. Ensure that team members are cross-trained to handle various tasks and responsibilities.
- Inventory Management: Oversee material handling, inventory control, and ensure that supplies are available to meet production demands. Minimize waste and manage storage efficiently.
- Performance Reporting: Track production output, efficiency, and quality metrics. Prepare and present regular reports to management on shop performance and key operational metrics.
- Problem-Solving: Identify issues that arise in the production process (e.g., delays, quality issues) and find solutions quickly to keep production on track.
- Continuous Improvement: Lead continuous improvement initiatives, such as streamlining processes, reducing waste, and increasing production efficiency. Encourage employees to suggest improvements.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree or technical certification in Manufacturing, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a CNC, manufacturing, or shop floor environment, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of shop floor processes, machinery, and equipment.
- Proven leadership skills and experience managing teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, production orders, and technical drawings.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions under pressure.
- Proficiency with production management software or scheduling tools.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices in manufacturing.

- Production Efficiency:
- Target: 90% or higher production efficiency.
- Measures: Ratio of actual production output to planned production output, accounting for downtime, delays, and machine setup times.
- On-Time Delivery:
- Target: 98%+ on-time delivery of orders.
- Measures: Percentage of orders delivered by the promised deadline versus total orders produced.
- Quality Assurance:
- Target: Less than 3% defect rate in production.
- Measures: Number of defective or reworked products as a percentage of total production output.
- Safety Performance:
- Target: Zero recordable safety incidents.
- Measures: Number of safety incidents, near misses, or OSHA-reportable incidents that occur in the shop per quarter or year.
- Employee Productivity:
- Target: 150% average employee productivity.
- Measures: Output per worker compared to labor hours worked, calculated monthly or quarterly.
- Downtime & Equipment Availability:
- Target: Less than 5% unplanned downtime.
- Measures: Total downtime due to equipment failure, maintenance, or other unplanned factors compared to the total available machine time.
- Employee Turnover & Retention:
- Target: Annual employee turnover rate of less than 20%.
- Measures: The percentage of employees who leave or are replaced during the year.

- Target: Score of 75 or better in 2025
