GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Plant Manager position provides the overall leadership and expertise to ensure their team’s success in operating the plant safely and efficiently while being good stewards of the environment and generating quality finished goods that exceed customer expectations.

The position has overall responsibility for the Sycamore plant to ensure standards for Environmental, Health, Safety, Quality and Food Safety are met or exceeded as well as in obtaining, developing and retaining talent to meet outlined goals for production and financial performance.

The Plant Manager role provides leadership and support to 9 direct reports on the site, EHS Manager, HR/Operations Administrator, Operations Manager, Maintenance Manager, Production Scheduler, Transportation and Logistics Specialist, (2) Finished Goods Technicians, and Senior Process Engineer (CapEx). The role also partners directly with the VP of Operations for the Americas region, as well as other internal and external stakeholders.

As a Plant Manager the incumbent is responsible for:

  • Leading EHSQS in the plant. Supporting EHSQS initiatives (training, repairs, improvements, etc.) Auditing EHSQS systems to assure compliance. Ensuring all environmental permit limits are being met at all times. Reporting deviations and expediting any repairs needed to return systems to permit limits.
  • Being a leader and key member of the Plant Safety Core Group and Plant Environmental Core Group.
  • Ensuring that the appropriate resources are made available to provide continual progress towards the fulfilment of Tate and Lyles’s environmental, health and safety policy goals.
  • The achievement of facility-specific environmental health and safety objectives and targets.
  • Participating in the determination of objectives and targets relating to Tate and Lyle’s risk assessment and environmental, health and safety aspects.
  • Reviewing EHSQS procedures, work instructions and the results of EHSQS audits.
  • Understanding and teaching the Lifesaving Principles and how they apply to Tate and Lyle’s work environment.
  • Leading Quality performance in the plant. Assuring all finished products are shipped within their final product quality specifications and are safe for general public to use. Ensuring related CAPEX projects improve product quality, minimize food safety exposure, and improve plant Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Auditing systems to ensure compliance.
  • Being a key leader and member of the Plant Quality/Food Safety Core Group.
  • Assuring all plant production plans are met and performing Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) reviews to identify and correct deviations.
  • Defining, approving and meeting plant budgets.
  • Assur capital projects improve EHS, quality, food safety, maintenance, ease of operation, cost, ingredient usage, and are on budget and time.
  • Identifying, recruiting and developing workforce talent at all levels within the plant and defining succession plans for critical roles.
  • Leading change management at the plant by developing effective communication pathways and educational materials for critical plant and business information.

Education and/Experience:

  • (external) A BS degree in Chemical, Mechanical or related engineering/manufacturing management with at least 10 years of engineering and plant experience is preferred.
  • (internal) A BS degree in Chemical, Mechanical or related engineering/manufacturing management with 5 + years of T&L experience and 2+ years of Management Level Experience in a T&L Plant preferred.

Demonstrated Abilities:

  • Strong leadership skills with a proactive, decisive, and result-oriented approach.
  • Open, honest, direct, non-aggressive communication style with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • A sharp focus on the development of high performing teams.
  • Proactive, process-oriented, continuous improvement approach.
  • Good working knowledge of food industry or chemical industry manufacturing practices.
  • Computer literate with proficient skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point.
  • Exposure to six sigma and/or lean processes a plus.
  • Exposure to Human Organization Performance (HOP) training and philosophies a plus.

Tate & Lyle complies with all local/state regulations requiring salary range transparency.

When determining final compensation, we take into consideration: skillset, job scope, knowledge, prior experience, cost of living, market data, budget availability, and other factors as permitted by law.

The salary range for this position is: $115,000 - $181,000.
