RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages the operations of the Buying & Planning Department. Oversees and approves purchasing activities for both direct and indirect suppliers. Manages the functions related to plant production planning, capacities, scheduling, material planning of packaging and raw materials.  Serves as the plant contact for most all corporate issues and concerns from Marketing, Planning, Export, Brand Building and Supply Chain
  • Manages the Columbus plant purchasing team (directs and mechanical storeroom) and is responsible for overall inventory material management, following SOPs.  
  • Oversee schedules, and manages ordering and ingredients, direct supplies, MRO parts, and packaging inventory levels to ensure the plant has the necessary materials to support production schedule in order to balance operational needs without overstocking.
  • Manages and approves plant purchase requisitions and purchase orders for direct supplies and indirect supplies.
  • As part of plant leadership team, effectively interacts and provides input to ongoing operations leadership meetings, participates in Hormel Production Systems meetings by bringing forward performance data, and suggestions for improved inventory and cost management. 
  • Manages supplier invoice approvals by verifying accuracy, adjusting as needed and corresponding with AP as necessary.
  • Collaborates cross functionally on continuous improvement and cost saving projects and accounting team on cycle counts & inventory management. 
  • Ensure all purchased materials meet the required quality standards and specifications and exceptions are reported and tracked in Trace Gains or assigned tool.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Record of successful experience in purchasing, supply chain, operations, or a related field.
  • Strong pattern of initiative and achievement.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Proven problem-solving, decision-making and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer. 

 

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, procurement, operations management or similar; or equivalent experience. 
  • Functional knowledge and understanding of the following computer/software programs: Financial Systems Software (Oracle) and EAMS.
  • Functional knowledge of MRP systems.
  • Experience managing teams. 

 

LOCATION: Hayward, CA. 

A comprehensive relocation package to the Hayward, CA area will be offered if needed.   

 

TRAVEL: 10% of the time  

 

At Hormel Foods, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. The base hiring pay range for the Plant Purchasing Manager - Columbus role is between $80,775 - $113,100 per year, and your actual base pay within that range will depend upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skill set, level of experience, and geographic market location.
