Position Summary 

Our Plant Managers are highly regarded leaders within our Company.  They report directly to our Company’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) and are responsible for developing and leading high performing teams of about 130 employees.  In addition, they are charged with optimizing our business results while also exceeding our customers’ expectations and our profit improvement plans in a safe and engaging way.   Success in these roles requires them to demonstrate the highest safety, quality and delivery standards in our industry. 

A successful Plant Manager will be a good mentor to our team members, find ways to increase the Plant’s safety, quality and performance by implementing best practices at all levels. This team member will provide impactful leadership and promote positive working relationships across all functions in an assigned facility and across the company.

This role will be instrumental in supporting and implementing our Safety and Continuous Improvement cultures.  This includes directing and managing some of our local safety and Continuous Improvement activities to support the fabrication of our country’s highest-quality steel bridges and structures. Our Plant Manager needs to be both a problem solver and an analytical thinker that can easily solve production problems as well as communicate our lean strategy in a way that will engage and motivate our employees, from the conference room to the plant floor, to be a part of our future successes.   

Work Relationships  

This role reports to our Chief Operating Officer. This position will directly oversee the plant’s operating team and will work closely with its departments and managers to ensure no gaps exist in our safety, quality, production and people practices.  In addition to the Plant Manager’s direct report, the successful candidate will also work with other indirect reports at the plant level and across the organization.   This includes finance, HR, Project Management, IT and Continuous Improvement resources.  

Principal Duties and Responsibilities  

  1. Serve as an example by actively participating in the EHS programs for the facility and the company.
  2. Work with the facility leadership to ensure a safe working environment. Ensure EHS policies and guidelines are met. Observe, report and correct all behaviors that are unsafe.
  3. Coach, train, communicate and monitor employees’ performance on safety programs.   Positively reinforce what is going well and improve areas that are not best in class. 
  4. Work closely with the Company Leadership Team to develop and implement agreed strategic activities.
  5. Analyzes manufacturing processes continually to improve volume, quality, cost and through put to maximize productive capacities of our manufacturing site. 
  6. Develop and maintain manufacturing operations business plans to include all program requirements, labor hours, production costs, training, etc.
  7. Provide guidance for improving operational management systems, processes and best practices.
  8. Drive Continuous Improvement from top down to achieve fiscal year commitments.
  9. Drive execution of strategic plans and priorities throughout the fiscal year.
  10. Top-grade plant’s talent: hire, coach and mentor a high performing team set up for success in the near term and in the longer term. 
  11. Be an exceptional communicator.  One that inspires others to give discretionary effort to make the plant an overall success.

Educational Background 

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a manufacturing-related field (engineering, business, supply chain, quality, etc.).  
  • Requires 10 or more years of experience in manufacturing – prior work experience in a unionized environment would be a bonus.   
  • Familiar with various lean principles with real-world examples in experience.
