Plant Manager

Reports To: General Manager

Job Status: Salary/Exempt

Work Schedule: Hours may vary / Typically Mon-Fri, first shift 

Summary: The Plant Manager will be responsible for directing and managing all plant operations with overall responsibility for production, packaging, warehouse, and maintenance departments while adhering to Prairie Farms’ safety and quality standards. Ensures increasing levels of customer and employee satisfaction while improving the efficiency of the workforce, materials, and machines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Directs the overall activities of the manufacturing facilities of the plant to ensure customer orders are scheduled, produced and shipped to meet customer’s requirements while maintaining corporate established quality standards.

· Implement cost effective systems of control over material, capital, operating expenditures, work force, wages and salaries.

· Establish and monitor KPIs for overall plant performance for production and quality standards.

· Monitor, control and minimize production costs for labor, overtime, material and repair expenses.

· Collaborate with Maintenance to maintain existing plant facilities and equipment. Replace, or adjust plant facilities and equipment when necessary.

· Ensure annual training is being performed to maintain regulatory and company requirements

· Provides leadership for employee relations through effective communications, coaching, training, and development.

· Ensures that appropriate standard operation procedures (SOPs) are developed and maintained for all aspects of the business.

Ensure sanitation, safety, GMP’s (Good Manufacturing Practices) and quality policies and procedures are followed.

· Is responsible for the Food Security Policy/Program to assess. Works with Quality to assess potential food security risks and to ensure food security preventative measures are being implemented and routinely audited.

· Manages operation’s headcount needs to include seasonality demands with temporary labor assignments with staffing agencies.

· Ensures compliance with company needs for capital investments and improvement projects

· Manages compliance with state and federal regulations

· Performs other duties assigned


Qualification/Requirements:

· Associates degree or some college preferred

· Ten years general management experience in a dairy manufacturing environment preferred

Working knowledge of budgets and financial statements

Background with manufacturing methods, process improvement programs and procedures

Ability to maintain confidentiality

· Proficient understanding of budget and cost control.

· Proven record of improved results in the areas of quality, safety, service and cost.

· Demonstrated ability to lead and coach team members and achieve desired objectives

· Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities and be a strong team player

· Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)

· Must be able to understand, read and write in the English Language

· Preference given to Spanish speaking as a second language

· Ability to lead others through changing organizational and operational needs

· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications

· Must be able to work with company team members at all levels within the organization

Must be willing to work flexible hours as required


Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and hear. The employee must be able to adhere to standard physical requirements: to walk, use hands and fingers to operate, handle, and feel objects and tools. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. All jobs require visual acuity to review written documentations; ability to hear and understand speech. At times there can be loud noise which may cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level. There is exposure to a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, and exposure to heat/cold temperature changes.
