We are honored to be constructing our newest shingle manufacturing facility in Newton KS and will hire our initial plant leadership team in 2024. Due to our investment in training and the development of employees, you will have the opportunity to travel to our other locations, engage with peers, hire the remainder of the plant staff and participate in the design and construction of the facility. Summary

GAF is looking for a Plant Manager who will assist with the design, construction and commissioning of a greenfield plant to support GAF’s shingle operations in Newton KS. The candidate will participate in design reviews, construction, commissioning efforts and the hiring of plant staff. During plant construction and commissioning, the Plant Manager will coordinate with internal and external resources to ensure schedule and financial compliance.

After commissioning, the Plant Manager will be responsible for leading and developing staff, driving a safe and reliable work environment, and achieving annual and long term operational, financial and infrastructure objectives. The role will report to the Senior Director of Operations and will work in a matrixed environment to meet all objectives. The Plant Manager establishes and directs all technical and administrative functions in the plant, including manufacturing, engineering, supply chain, and partners with shared services organizations such as human resources and accounting.

Essential Duties

  • Be the “Face of GAF” in the local community and develop key relationships.

  • Assist Corporate design team with plant design. Ensure compliance with construction and commissioning schedules.

  • Hire plant staff and develop the team through the construction, commissioning and operating phases.

  • Establish and promote a work environment where safety is the highest priority.

  • Lead organizational planning and career development initiatives on site. Provide the team with coaching and mentoring to help the team members achieve their full potential.

  • Provides appropriate leadership, resources and processes to ensure robust plant operations.

  • Drive results for safety, quality, operational/OEE, maintenance reliability, continuous improvement and cost. Explore and analyze technical, production, and management disciplines to develop annual budgets and long-term plans.

  • Drive financial goals, multi-year capital plans, work schedules, and human resource requirements.

  • Partner with the Accounting team to drive all financial metrics and forecasting costs and trends including proper variance analysis. Monitor both month-end and year-end financial closing activities, reviewing and submitting the external auditor’s financial report.

  • Drive Business Continuity Plan (BCP) initiatives on site. Align with Corporate Procurement & Supply Chain teams as well as local teams to mitigate risk with single sourcing of raw materials as well as achieving target inventories for finished products. Provide direction for local materials management to manage proper inventories, improve costs, provide timely feedback to suppliers and drive supply contracts.

Under This Roof, We Require

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 10+ years demonstrated manufacturing experience

  • Ability to communicate, both written, and orally, in English is required

  • Ability to meet extensive travel requirements in first 1-2 years for the opportunity to visit and train at existing GAF locations

Under This Roof, We Also Value

  • Experience with continuous manufacturing

  • Experience with startup operations

  • Experience with asphalt shingle manufacturing

  • Engineering degree (Chemical, Electrical, Industrial or Mechanical) preferred

  • Experience with process hazard analysis

  • Experience in Google Suite and SAP is beneficial

  • Strong people leadership and team building skills with a demonstrated track record of leading teams to the achievement of superior results

  • Practical knowledge and experience utilizing world class manufacturing techniques

  • Excellent interpersonal, communications, public speaking and presentation skills

  • Experience with process hazard analysis and process safety management

  • Knowledge of project management processes and systems

  • Knowledge of engineering fundamentals to include root cause analysis, statistical process control, lean/agile approaches and structured problem solving (Kepner Tregoe, Potential Problem Analysis, Design of Experiments, etc)

  • Willingness to respond to after hour emergencies including weekends and holidays
