The Neil Jones Food Company is an industry leader, processing superior quality fresh-packed, vine-ripened California tomatoes and Pacific Northwest fruit. Headquartered in Vancouver, Washington, NJFC has been providing our nation’s discerning foodservice, retail, industrial and institutional customers with the finest quality canned and pouched products for over 50 years. NJFC operates three production facilities: Northwest Packing in Vancouver, WA.; San Benito Foods, in Hollister, CA; and Toma-Tek in Firebaugh, CA.  

 

We are looking for an Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) Manager to implement and maintain company policies adhering to local, state and federal environmental, health and safety regulations for a food manufacturing facility. Involved in the design and development of facilities, work areas and work procedures and makes environmental, health and safety recommendations accordingly. Individually as assigned or in a team role serves as a functional resource to ensure Environmental, Safety and Industrial Health and Sustainability deployments and/or projects are leveraged effectively and consistently. This leader will be responsible for supporting the plant business team and management with respect to EHS and Sustainability compliance and the implementation of programs which minimize risk, meets and exceeds compliance requirements, and promotes continuous improvement at our Northwest Packing plant in Vancouver, WA.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Provides consultation to plant leadership and associates regarding environmental, health and safety programs, sustainability, operations, and compliance.
  • Oversees performance against EHS core values for site operations, monitors and manages site EHS systems and leads continuous improvement in EHS; ensure management systems are effectively executed and monitored.
  • Responsible for preparing, maintaining, and updating environmental and policy and procedure manuals. 
  • Ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. Serves as contact with all federal, state, and local regulatory bodies
  • Manages site EHS staff, including recruitment, selection, performance management, succession planning and ongoing development. 

 

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental, Safety and Health, Engineering or related field; or, any combination of education, experience and training that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the key responsibilities of the position.
  • 5 years’ experience in progressive EHS position in a manufacturing setting, preferably in food processing, at least one year of prior supervisory experience, and comprehensive knowledge of Federal, State, and local EHS regulations.
  • Experience with industrial wastewater (RWQCB), air emissions, and AB 32 Cap and Trade (CARB) preferred. Ability to manage operating permits and develop compliance monitoring and reporting processes. Certificates or licenses in specialized EHS areas are preferred.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including proper use of grammar; bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test, background check including employment and educational verification, and credit screen, and to work extended schedule and weekends during the fresh pack season, typically July to early November.

 

Compensation:

The salary range is $89,000 - $93,500, based on experience and qualifications.
